I traded #8 and AA for #27 in a poker game with McDonough

I like our team even better now

Was this guy acting like Stan Bowman ever actually funny? In my opinion it's not at all.

Image how much more if bowman didn't sign gus and rutta so quickly and hopefully trades AA and hossa's contract that's another 9 mill plus.
- Scott1977

Gus isn't an issue - if he doesn't work out, he can be almost completely buried.

Rutta's number hurts more but he was a UFA and RD, the latter of which the Hawks didn't have much of in-system and the UFA class is weak on. On a one-year, it's not like it'll be impossible to trade him - again, cause RD are a high demand commodity. He's probably more a bad back-up plan if they can't get a trade done.

HB blogger Adam French has been doing his own mock draft and has the Hawks taking Tkachuk at 8th and Slovakian defender Martin Fehervary at 27th. Don't know much about him but I like French's description which focuses a lot on Fehervary's strengths playing actual defense. French's comparable for him is Jonas Brodin.

Still completely disappointed you didn't reveal all your offseason plans and exactly all the players you're targeting in the draft, as well as FA's, trades, etc...

You disgust me.

Why would the hawks take Fehervary at 27 if he projected to be in the 3rd or 4th round bit stretch and gamble.

If Stan trades up to draft Brady Tkachuk I would give him a figurative high five

wiz - any more info indicating who the Hawks are targeting if they want to move up? With volatility after #2 seems hard to predict. Is there any chance trying to pry #2? That would be some trade. Just dreamin’.
- Z3Hawk

Today was a bust...no nothing...no fans even with rumors.

(I been out there watching / seeking until right now, since my last post at 4 p.m. when I threw up that big trade snippet)
I just have had no luck, and you know I attempt to talk to everybody...

LOL...the rumors will probably look nothing like what will actually happen. People fired up to get Brady or Zadina...both will 99% sure be property of other organizations this time tomorrow. But it's fun to dream.

I have now lost respect for you due to these failures

All you shared was an Eklund like rumor so bad, even he didnt post it. He was actually quoted as saying.."what is that, like an W7?"

Hey Wiz, what’s the deal with teams being shy about taking goalies in the first round?

Samsonov was recently taken in the 1st by the Caps a couple years ago, and I know the Stars took that goalie last year (which is interesting because they gambled on a goalie in the first years ago who turned out to be a flop in Jack Campbell who I remember people talking about as a can’t-miss.)

Do goalies have to be truly elite prospects in order to warrant 1st round consideration? ..... hoping to just somehow get lucky down the road when they see them develop and then snag them rather than drafting/developing them early on like the Lightning did with Vasilevskiy.

- TommyHawk

It is so difficult to look at an 17-18 year old kid, and say his reflexes, his athleticism and his techniques are SO ADVANCED, that he can take 4-5 years and easily transition into the NHL.

I think the Campbell flop probably sealed thing to where IF you take one in the first, even early second, he is advanced. The Russians (Vasilevskiy-have you ever seen his pregame exercise-he ballerina like) goalies (Samsonov) taken early because they were playing well in the Russian MHL a step below the top tier KHL...
there skills were already on the record against higher end attackers.

John Gibson was taken early in the second because those very qualities also started emerging as a bigger kid.
The kid Dallas took Jake Oettinger is a big kid too.
The pick was a gamble and the jury is out on him, after 73 college games.

This draft has three clear prospects in goal and no standouts that are jumping up.

The kid in Q is the best.

So you not only spend a pick whenever you draft a goaler, but you are planning and investing in his development through the paths you want to be part of where he plays, have your staff involved in the on-going process, figuring where you slot him time-wise IF things are going well (Think Blues having to deal Bishop because they had two in place in Elliott and Allen...or even the hawks feeling a logjam with the Russian wanting to come over)
So there will be a run at some point, but you are getting one to work with the selectee

If JK makes it past Montreal, I think he’ll make it to 8.

I only trade up for Zadina.

I’ll gladly take Wahlstrom, Hughes, or anyone else who slides to 8.

- TommyHawk

Yeah, Jesperi Kotkaniemi doesn't move like a guy who is medically impaired...I still like him and he is still in my wants.

Tom Wilson♥️

And

Cap space. Lol.

$ Doesnt seem to be that bad for the Hawks. Seriously, sign a goal scorer, draft a goal scorer that can play this year if possible . Buy some D men and lets (frank)ing go. So tired of the Hawks being boring to watch.
