I’m not so sure it’s beneficial to move down one slot unless there is a guarantee the player Benning wants will be at 8, and he could also get a later round pick from Bowman
- Makita

if the Canucks want a defender and can squeeze a pick, dontacha do it?
(You just make sure the Hawks come to agreement on who they are taking...

Second, there is a lot that can happen between now and the draft. If the player that Benning covets is taken by his turn, I would like to see him package the pick and assets to NYI to get their two first round picks.
- Makita

I don't think you get those two picks for slot 7...
maybe slot 4 or 5....
and it seems incomprehensible that the Rangers don't take advantage in the rebuild of TWO chances to get NHL players.

How do you feel if Brady decides to stay in college?

I think he only goes pro if he can play for a winner.

I have been holding this concern for a while. What worries me about a Tkachuk is, do you remember seeing his dad play in the alumni game? I don't want that size on the Blackhawks.
- powerenforcer

I only remember what his dad was on the ice during his career not his WHALE of a retirement days...

His fancy stats suck, IIRC every Dman he played with was better without him, but man this guy can flat out skate. I'm a fan of his for a 3rd pairing.
- Mr Ricochet

Agree, Moore would be good on the 3rd pair with Murphy or even Seabrook. Acquire de Haan to anchor the 2nd pair. Just need a partner for Keith.

Keith - RD
de Haan - Seabrook
Moore - Murphy

Or maybe something else like...

Keith - Seabrook
de Haan - Murphy
Moore - RD

...with the RD being one of Rutta (RHD) or Oesterle (LHD but can play both sides). Or nab another UFA like Pateryn on the cheap. He's earning $900,000 so I can't see him commanding more than $1.2MM.

It would worry me if he didn't put his name on a contract...you find out very fast in preseason if he is behind the curve enough that college benefits his overall game, and then you cross that bridge.

You think he wants to delay the dream?

Everything I have heard in his interviews doesn't point to, "my emphasis is on winning at BU..."

Verifies what we already know. If there is a team that benefits from going with Tkachuk, it is the punchless Blackhawks. I have decided that I trust wiz scouting. He says Tkachuk, then that is my choice. But I am respectful if Z3; maybe Tkachuk is more capable and dangerous than scouting reports say. It is all about what you can do for me (and creating two different type lines if Chicago). Not about only the eight goals scored last season. Look at his production WJC. Alas time will tell.
- jhawk59

One issue that I think could be very important in the Hawks thinking regarding Wahlstrom is he shoots RIGHT. An offensive force winger that shoots RIGHT - put him on his offwing as the LW on Kane’s line. For those missing Panarin there you go. I love Zadina too but he is a LEFT shooting RW - great player but not for Kane. We already have a RW for Toews. What should be done with Saad is this - you finally move him to his off-wing where he can penetrate for his shots easier making him Toews’ left shooting RW. My job is done. lol

I would disagree with that. ANY draftee that can make an nhl team will play. It’s their lifelong dream. Plus it’s one year closer to cashing in on that 2nd contract. I’d bet he’d even play for that $hit show in Ottawa if that’s who drafted him.

At one of those rare points where the next few days brings with them opportunity for something really positive to happen. C'mon Bowman step up.

My plan is to be surprised if he makes two good choices without moving down.

Tyler Seguin would probably argue he was involved in an even dumber trade made by Chiarelli.

Guessing that's the case. At first thought this was in reference to Kopitar winning the Selke, but Bergeron has won 4 of the previous 6.

Weren't you on the "he is bad for the brand" bandwagon with Drew Carey a few years ago?
- dpard

You prove yourself to be nothing more than a clueless troll. Everyone here can attest to my support for Kane during the hoax of an “assault” case that the DA himself called a “so called case”. It was me and simple Jack supporting 88 and pretty much everyone else wanted him gone with not one shred of evidence. You’re bad for the brand of this blog dpard.

Ahhh makes sense, I assumed a (reasonable) mis-spelling because Chiarelli is a GM

I was on Kane’s side totally and attacked his attackers all over the internet. That whole situation was a complete sham and complete nonsense and seemed even more so if you were a Lawyer.

"If Oliver Wahlstrom and Brady Tkachuk are sitting there at No. 8 for the Blackhawks,, one scout said, "I’d take Wahlstrom over Tkachuk. ... I think Tkachuk can be in the league faster, but I think Wahlstrom will be the more productive player."

-Powers

Hawks are getting Zadina though, so this doesn't really matter

- SoftServe

Right there with you, getting Zadina might be the best. Could step in right away. Keep #8; Zadina, Wahlstrom, Tkachuk, Dobson or Kotkaniemi wil be there. Pick the one the scouts like best and make sure you get the card in on time.

Only if 4 you really like are there think about #8 for #11 and #41 (and maybe something extra) from the Islanders. Still get what you want at #11 and use #41 for one of the top goalies (top part of second round is where Wiz has them coming off the board).

Lots of good options. Have a good feeling about this right now.

Evidence or even potential guilt didn't have anything to do with the argument on the other side.

It will be interesting to see what the Hawks do with the draft. I’m hoping they do not trade this pick. I’ve read some articles suggesting they may consider using that pick as part of a package to get Justin Faulk. My concern is that they are more than a few tweaks from being a Cup contender. Unless Toews Keith Seabrook and Saad all have big rebound years and Crawford comes back and plays at a high level would Faulk or Carlson make that much of a difference.

I was chirping JJ right well or just after the Kane news conference was going on for reading way to much into the situation .What did he want McD and Q and Stan to slap him on the back with a way to go .This board was probably 75 /25 spit against Kane then ..

I think most people, me anyway, were pissed that Kane was somehow embroiled in another controversial situation.

Whether it was of his own making or not was not really the point. It was more about his ability (or seeming inability) to make good decisions or at the very least exercise better discretion off the ice and keep his name out of the press for the wrong reasons.

I have no idea if he learned anything at all from that particular incident but the fact that was the last time bad juju seemed to follow in the press is a good sign for me.
