I feel like anyone who is opposed to trading for Hanifan is for fear he becomes more like risto than anything

Lol. High praise for a guy that is half a hockey player
- CanuckDon

Sure, but the half he does well is quite exceptional. I always think skill wins out more times than not over intangibles like size, maturity etc.

He's never going to be a good defender but there are lots of those guys in the NHL. Easier to find a Tanev type than a Mike Green IMO.

Just ranking guys based on skill/talent alone is just as bad as ranking them based on “intangibles” imo

Just watching this guy play will tell you that he’s a dangerous combination of lazy and dumb. Hockey sense is above all else for a dman.

Risto is better offensively but just as bad defensively, if I had to choose it’d be Ristolainen.

If he was so good that everyone wanted him he wouldn’t be available, unless it was for a guy like Taylor Hall...

You guys are crazy, Merkley is a 1st rounder gauranteed and likely top 20.

He certainly does have issues and that's why he's not in the top 5. IMO he ends up being a more impactful D than Hughes and Dobson although obviously a big gamble.

- belcherbd

Worth the gamble & there will be a lot of GMs regretting not rolling the dice IMO.

Lol, I'm enjoying the banter myself.

At the end of the day Dobson has a better chance of being a top 6 player for 10plus years, but compared to boqvist, he has almost no chance of being a number one. Only Dahlin and Boqvist have that ceiling.

- Pres.cup

hard to see boqvist ever being a true #1 at even strength

PP TOI and PPG he has the potential to be way up the list

yeah have heard bad things about him defensively (more so than hanifin), plus he's had 2 more years to develop so should be a lot closer to his ceiling at this point

3 seasons @ 40 points (high of 45) for risto vs 2 @ 30 for hanifin

hanifin also scored 10 last year whilst risto had high of 9 3 years ago

ristolainen gets a bonus for being a righty but overall i'd probably lean towards hanifin

Ya skating/skill and IQ should be the three they look for IMO. The game has changed.

And the poor team has the unenviable choice of giving up 4th o.a this year or next years first after that stupid Duchene trade. What would you choose? Plus he is unsigned after next season so he can walk too. They are by far going to be the worst team in the NHL next year with no players, old goalie, and a serious culture problem.
