Without going through a number of reasons I don't see this happening I'll go with the saddest reason:

Xenophobia

Drouin isn't going anywhere because he's french. There's many other reasons but that's the easiest starting point

- Takemedrunkimhome

we outside of montreal don't understand the logic in that, but...ok

So ROR is a core piece here, who is the core guy coming back? Don’t think either of them would be considered core.... just two guys ( granted not bad players... but)

Just don’t think mtl makes a good trade partner.

- gordong

I think you underestimate Pacioretty.

Four straight seasons of 30+ goals.

I would do that trade all day.
It would solve the Left Wing Problem instantly.

Paciaoretty-Eichel-Reinhart
Drouin-Middlestadt-Okposo

Thats a pretty damn good top 6. Drouin can also play Center to help shield Middlestadt minuets/ tough draws.

I think if they don't personally like each other, it's one thing, but if it leads to players being divided and a rotten attitude on and off the ice for the entire team, a change should be made. Doesn't mean ROR should be sold for peanuts, but everything that's been said about him can be backed up by years of evidence. At the end of the day, he's a guy who needs to be captain, he's a me 1st guy, and if something isn't going his way, his negative attitude will spread.

It was reported before the trade that him and Duchene were at odds. Now him and Eichel? It's an ugly track record. And he (frank)ing likes olives.

- TheSabresTaco

ROR is a me first guy?..? WTF are you talking about...? Or that there is years of evidence of his apparent character flaws...? The guy seems like the epitome of a team first guy and takes personal responsibility for each loss which he repeats ad nauseum in every interview.

The clear divide seems to stem from a salad bar incident at the Golden Corral on a road trip in Minnesota. Lines in the sand were drawn. Apparently assistant coach Tom Payne had to intervene in an olives vs. walnuts debate which had the Minnesota Nice restaurant staff beside themselves...

Finally the team united around it's opposition to Victor Antipin's position that "in Mother Russia only Beet goes in egg salad...beet and egg and russia."

Well, if it's not Patches, I think I would do Poehling and Juulsen for ROR.. I don' think that's an overpayment by either team, but if you don't think it's fair, we could add a 4th, or a B prospect like Bailey, or take Shaw for Bogo and Larsson
- TheSabresTaco

Value is debatable for anybody. I'd doubt MTL wants to move their top prospect and C but who knows. I think the value in this is mostly off due to salary though. MTL adds $7.5M and buff gets two ELCs

I don't agree with it. I'm from SW Ontario and speak minimal french. I accept it because it's the way it is. I'm not in favour of it...but I get it. I've got to accept things that can't be changed and take the scenarios that are available to me rather than wanting an ideal situation.

It's why hiring coaches and GMs is such a handicap for MTL

the only problem with patches is he's getting long in the tooth and his next contract will take him into over-the-hill status...he might still be a valuable piece but declining production would make him severely overpaid some five/six years from now

I can see that but as an outsider to all this it seems like they are in a tough spot. I agree that ROR needs to go but I just don't agree it should have anything to do with his relationship with Eichel. He is overpaid to be a #2 and is too slow for the way they want to play. Also the #1 pick this year isn't a Sid Ovi or McJesus so its going to be at least 2 years until things start turning around. Some things I've read from people on here are saying different and its sad.

Umm I think most experts have compared Dahlin to Mcdavid, he is to defensemen what Mcdavid is to forwards, not sure you get much better than that.

I think there's a lot MTL could give you, but their prospects, assuming that's what we want, are not too hot. Poehling and Juulsen would be cool, but correct me if I'm wrong, they're no more than a top 6C and a top 4D. However, they're young and cost controlled. Maybe get that #35.
- TheSabresTaco

Poehling had good numbers that year but really middle 6 most likely. Top 4 for Juulsen so yes mostly

Yes to this trade assuming Patches is signed longer term. I have been occasionally beating the ROR for Drouin trade (straight up) for about 6 weeks. I like your thinking on this one.

Nope, that would be bacon, onions and an oil/vinegar dressing. I'm going to have to make some GPS this weekend now.

Defenseman play more minutes and have a bigger impact on the game as well in my opinion.

Offer him a 4 year deal for 23MM. See if he accets

If not you can flip him at the deadline for more pieces.
