What's everyone's opinion on Philipp Grubauer? I'm not huge on the idea of trading a first for the guy I think it's a big overpayment. I know at this point it's complete speculation with the asking price and even whether we would make a play for him. Of course there may not be many options so you do what you got to do but I would rather we go in another, more solid direction. Seems like taking a chance on a relatively unproven player again to me.

I agree. He could be Greiss 2.0. If you're going to spend a first round pick in a relatively deep draft I'd rather get someone with more of a track record.

The real question is, how do they get Richard Park back?
Clearly this will make JT's decision on staying an obvious choice!

Unless Lou can work some magic and bring in a name no one here expects, (which, with Lou, is entirely possible) Grubauer may be the best option available. I'm not big on him either, for the record.

Yep like I said you got to do what you got to do BUT I'm hoping for someone else. Not really sure who bit someone with a better resume.

He's an upgrade over what we have had. As long as we hire a good solid coach with a real structure defensively, he would do well.

I mean he’s no Kevin Poulin or Mikko Koskinen but he’ll do.

Why would you trade for him and give away a first round pick???? why not offer sheet him 2-4 mil and only give away a 2nd round pick...

It would be great to give up one of the 2nd round picks for Grubauer but the Caps might not go for that. Going to be tough to get a proven goalie that is not too old.

He reminds me a ton of Martin Jones, in that he was a backup that had very good success in somewhat-limited starts. He played 35 games this year and posted a .935sv% and 2.35GAA. That's almost half a seasons-worth of starts, so it's not like he played well for 20 games and we're making wild guesses here. It's not a full body of work, but it's not terrible sample either.

11 or 12 might be a steep price for him, but if Lou can use both 2nd's and maybe another asset to pry him out of there, that would be a big win. That affords us the opportunity to either use one or both of them in a trade for a defenseman or just keep them and make the picks.

There's not a huge body of work to base that on.

He's not available. He's working as Dennis Rodman's Korean translator.

Unfortunately, you are correct. There are more teams looking for a proven goalie than there are proven goalies out there.

A Grubauer type goalie w=might be the Isles best option. Still think better coaching and system will do wonders for this team. Isles do not need to trade for a Price or Hank.

100% and its gonna be a real pleasure to see a coach who's here based on merit, and not because he's an ex U of Maine roomates brothers friend from New England.
