Hey Bill,

It looks like there was a small typo with the date Mark Streit was signed. I believe it was 2012 or 2013.

It was June 12, 2013. The greatest day in Flyer's history.

That is not a spectacular total for a high-skill prospect in a junior league but he was a 17-year-old in a deep lineup with many older players.

But it is terrible for someone who is actually 23

With OEL getting 8 for 8, I wonder what that does for John Carlson. Both are excellent on the pp, but I think OEL is the better all around Dman. Of course being a UFA will inflate the deal, but I can't see Carlson getting more than 8 million per from anyone.

If they sign Provy long term, he should be over 7 million/yr. Tied for the league in goals with limited PP time, plenty of PK time, and always paired against the top lines on even strength is very attractive.

I agree. Sign him for the maximum of 8 years (which would cover four RFA years and 4 UFA years) and lock him up till he's 30. Anything below $8m AAV would be a bargain with the way the cap is going up.

8x8 for all UFA years is a very good sign for Provorov's contract

OEL had a bridge deal before this so I think provy gets less if we give him long term right away

8 at 7 mill per

Is it just me, or does it seem most of the forwards in the 8-20 range are on the smaller side (under 6 feet)? I'm not against taking a guy based solely on size, but all things equal, would prefer a bigger player.

Provy as a rookie in 16-17, put up 6 goals and 30 points, was a -7 and finished with an ATOI of 21:59. He was playing #1 Dman minutes and matchups by mid season and his numbers are extremely impressive for a 19-20 year old rookie playing that spot on a mediocre team.

Last year, he upped his numbers to 17 goals, 41 points and was a +17 with an ATOI of 24:09. His numbers are extremely impressive when you consider the fact that he does not play on the top PP and he plays, by far, the most and hardest minutes of any player on the team. His overall possession numbers are solid as well, especially when you factor in his 53% D zone starts and the amount of time he's on the ice against top lines.

Even without top pp unit time, I can see Provorov being a guy who plays 25-26 minutes a night, matches up against the other teams top lines and top pp units, is extremely durable and always in phenomenal shape, and, once the forward talent level is upgraded, is consistently putting up 15-20 goals and 50-60 points.

With all that being said, I'd give him 8 million per for 8 years without a moment's hesitation because I think 8 million will be a bargain for Provorov by the 2nd or 3rd year of the deal, and potentially a flat out steal by the 5th through 8th years. Not only could the cap easily be flirting with 100 million by then, but even in the last year of the deal, Provorov will only be turning 30.

We got Allison, Strome, and Ratcliffe in the system

5'10 or taller is fine with me. Below is where I become worried

Bridge deals are 2 or 3 years so when they expire the player is still a RFA. His current contract is 6 x $5.5m.

Get it down now. 8 million for 8 years. Because if he has another solid year and somehow get into Norris talk next year the price just goes up
