Dunno Enzo. I think we need a top forward prospect in the system. Veleno or Wahlstrom. Leaning more towards Veleno. We have jack for C prospects right now.

We do have Jokiharju and he looks like the real deal. Yet he is still probably two years away. And you are right.. we need help everywhere.

If Jokiharju was a game-breaking talent he wouldn’t have been cut from Finland at the Worlds IMO. Hawks need an All Star at 8 whether it’s Bouchard or Kotkamini or Wahlstrom

Ehhhhh that means zilch. Debrincat was left off the US roster and we see the player he is. All things considered, we should draft the top rated player regardless of position.

The reality is that nobody on a message board will know the leadership abilities of any hockey player first hand. We are not in the locker room or on the bench, we have to rely on what we hear in the various media outlets. For the past decade the media has consistently reported about Toews' leadership, for Kane it's only been that past year. or so.

Bottom line....we all have no idea how good or bad of a leader Toews and Kane really are.

- DarthKane

Are you kidding? I don’t have to be a professional Chef to know how great food tastes. In the same way I don’t have to be part of the Hawks to know who is doing things publicly clearly showing leadership and who is not. The list is long concerning what Kane does and the list is extremely short concerning what Toews does. For example for Toews as the Captain to miss Conventions is awful - same for Seabrook as an “A”. When did they get bigger than the team? It is just my opinion but I think this is one of the reasons you are hearing their names shopped. I’d be surprised if Rocky’s unhappiness was directed at Kane. However, Toews should feel like he is wearing a bullseye.

Are you joking? Jokiharju was probably best dman out there for Finland in exhibition games. He was cut because coach wanted to go with more experienced/familiar players.

Coming into the NHL as a skilled winger and being effective is 10x easier than coming in and playing Top 4 minutes on Defense. Him being cut from Finland does not mean he isn’t going to be an NHL player, but if he was good enough to make them keep him in the team they would have. I would expect a Forsling-Esque type season IF Jokiharju makes the team. Top 10 picks on D with Bouchard’s package of skills I don’t think you can pass on.

Finland went with more experienced players on D at the Worlds from what I remember and they had numbers to choose from. Long and short of it. Wasn’t a slight of Jokiharju at all who is a wonderful prospect who has excelled in the difficult WHL.

There are a few problems I have with Wahlstrom. He hasn’t played a ton of high level hockey and he is committed to BC which may indicate he sees himself as needing much more development before the NHL is a possibility. Wahlstrom says he believes he is competetive with players ranking higher than him but those players will be trying to make their NHL teams.

University is a good place to use for player placement of lower draft choices. I don’t know that it works that well for high draft choices. Toews was already at North Dakota when he was drafted so he is really not a comparable. Have also thought Toews should have been with the Hawks after his draft year just like Kane did.

Is Wahlstrom a year away, 2, 3? Can the Hawks afford to draft a forward they have to wait on? My feeling is if the Hawks are drafting a forward they need someone at 8 who is as close to NHL-ready as possible. Maybe they are nonexistent. If so then draft a highly skilled D-Man that you might have to develop for a bit but who may be a monster on D for 10 years or more.

12. The NHLPA hopes to let the league know by June 18 how much it will raise the salary cap for 2018-19.

The league indicated the limit will be between $78-$82 million, with the players having the option to raise the ceiling by up to five per cent.

It has done the max every year but two. The first was 2006, because the cap went up 13 per cent. The second was last summer, because of high escrow. Last year’s percentage was 1.35, which bumped the number $2 million.

Friedman BTW

18.Trade that might only make sense to me: Scott Darling for Marian Hossa, with the Hurricanes keeping money on the goalie.

Blackhawks clear cap room and gain security if Corey Crawford is unavailable. Carolina can go elsewhere in net and save actual dollars.

I have been told that the league isn’t thrilled with the idea of Hossa being used as a trade chip, but the Blackhawks need the room.

Y’all ever start to wonder if Hossa covered up a lot for Toews ? How long was Hossa on Toews wing ? The last 7 years? Maybe Hossa should be given a lot of the credit for Toews defensive metrics ?

The last two post seasons the Hawks participated in Toews was awful with a lot of palms up bs towards the refs.

Just throwing this out there.

and yet he wants slow af bouchard.

jokesonyou also put up some huge numbers in the WHL this year with the winterhawks. personally i like mitchell more but jokesonyou was the last cut from the Finn's WC team, IIRC

Bouchard has size, ability, IQ, and is a right hand shot, and while he doesn't have blazing speed, I haven't heard him described as slow af. I would honestly be ok with any of (in order): Tkachuk, Dobson, Wahlstrom, Bouchard, Kotkaniemi or Veleno. I would pass on Hughes and Boqvist because I'd like to get some Dmen with size. I know Hughes and Boqvist are much better than what we have in the pipeline, but so are Dobson and Bouchard.

This is a strong draft for dmrn in the too 12 picks, and especially within the too eight. If you really want a forward, Wahlstrom may need more season's ng than you might have originally guessed according to a blog on this site. It is a teach to go after Velano too high and you do not really expect Tkachuck to drop. So the prudent thing to do is to try to ensure that you draft the dman you really like, not a consolation like maybe Dobson would be. There are top end skill dmen with skill set better or more specific as better than even our better prospects like ke Jokiharju. Here then in opportunity to set up a dynamic production from the defense for years to come. Might want to look at which of the high end offensive prospects are rated to become fair or above average defenders, though, despite size and strength issues. Compete and smarts still count. If s prospect might one day be so good at reads and other things, it could minimize his deficiencies to some extent.

I am not joking. I just rewatched Miracle and Herb Brooks/Kurt Russel said it best with something along the lines of,”whoever makes the team, believe it or not, is up to you. Force me to keep you here.” If Jokiharju was Dahlin or Ekblad good, he would’ve forced the coach to keep him on the team. I’m hopeful Jokiharju is an excellent NHL player, but he fell to 29th overall for a reason... if you can grab any of the D ranked in the Top 10, they are instantly the #1 prospect in the system.

Agreed in that I would prefer to pass on them. No way does Duclair get any pay increase; if kept it is all incentives gp then production. He has to get the right mind set and prove himself at Rockford. He cannot play behind others in Chicago as a pure offensive player. Jurco is merely depth. He wants to play here, then if we can fit his contract in our 50 he is ok.

In a game where speed is always being promoted I have to wonder if down the road Bouchard would be only an average skater not able to move into a too pair slot. Hughes and Boqvist could be dynamic so I would look at what their overall game could become. How much better skill wise and skating is Dobson than prospects we have like Hillman and Gilbert? The other dmen rated near Dobson sort of look high reward big disappointment type. Can Smith play adequate defense one day. You need to consider taking premier talent despite the size. Which is why I shy away from Dobson, Velano. I am not totally against Bouchard; he has a nice skill set but is slower skating. Now get back to me and say whom you prefer at #8 - still Bouchard? I am merely pointing out my concern. Not necessarily disagreeing with you

I’d be good with Bouchard. Next to Dahlin he could be the most NHL ready d-man in the draft. That’s not to say Bouchard will be the best (next to Dahlin) in the long term, but that’s near impossible to guess at this point.

Then at #27 the Hawks can draft Dellandrea

I would like the hawks to keep duclair but he can be part of a trade that could bring back top 4 d man then go ahead.
