I thought Scotty Bowman makes all the calls, not Q....that he is just the "puppet".

So isnt it Scottys fault?

Wrong, he is literally locked in as the Capitals #4 Dman and they are (likely) going to win the Stanley Cup! Trevor Daley did the exact same thing stepping in as a #4 for Pittsburgh. John Carlson has always been known for his offense first, so it's not like he's playing with Nick Lidstrom in his prime. If it makes you all sleep better at night to diminish the play of Daley with Pittsburgh or Kempny with Washington, that is your right. However, the reality of the situation is that he is playing close to 18 minutes per night with their #1 D and has been quite effective. Believe me, I'm as shocked as anyone to see Kempny excel with Washington after watching him suck it up with the Hawks for 1.5 seasons. Just shows you how much the mental side of the game impacts performance. Confidence is key.

Nope nothing more than a #5

^^^^^^^^^^ This!

“I’m really appreciative,” Kempny said. “Especially

- walleyeb1[because of] those bad days in Chicago. I didn’t know what to do. I lost completely my confidence. If I stayed in Chicago, after the season, who knows?”

So what'll be his excuse next year when some dumb team signs himto a big contract and he plays his same ol bad defense that he's been playingin the play offs, is he going to say well the goalie stopped those pucks last year. I hope Holtby gets a commission for Kempnys contract, he's earned it.

Btw if memory serves me correct, you were one of many running Daley out of town, minimizing Q's confusing defense, when i kept saying its fine give him time to figure it out, other s with their underlying stats crap as well.

TScotty was making suggestions to the coach ,until Q ego exploded with his big contract and he tuned everyone out . Stan was forced to make the best deal he could as Kempny had made it clear he was not coming back to Q gong show . Stan did well to get a 3rd after Q almost killed any value left in Kempny .

Had to laugh last night when play by play on HNC confused Kempny with Ovie on the last goal .. Don't understand this narrative that Kempny has been shelter ,seems to be in the middle of a lot of big plays all playoffs long

Savvy,

You know that Eddie O gives Emrick 20 bucks every time Emrick says, former blackhawk, Michael Kempny.....

Hilarious.

If you had to take one of Kempny or Duncan Keith for the next 3 years...today...who would you pick?

- TrueGrit

Hey TG, hope you are well!
I heard it's only a sawbuck each time but what do I know?

W/O knowing whether Keith's knee is healed, hard to make a call on that one. If it supposedly is, I would take Kempny -- Keith makes plenty of the same boneheaded plays Kempny does except the apologists here will never admit it. In fact, EVERY D man in the league makes mistakes like that, just a question of whether the puck ends up in the back of the net after a bad play, more a function of:
D partner able to cover
F's getting back timely and playing good D (possibly covering)
G making the timely save

What I see with Kempny is what Mr Ricochet has pointed out - a guy with good size, great physical tools, very good skater and + speed, good passer and ability to play a physical game and win battles. Most of those things run against the Q grain tho.

I'm most interested to see what takes place on the Island this coming year now that Snow and Weight have been relieved of duties and Lou has taken over.

Don't think there will ever be agreement on this board re Q, Stan, the coaching scheme, current and former players. It's just the way it is.

I'm surprised about all the love Darling is getting on this board. Did anyone watch or pay any attention to him this past season? He was borderline trainwreck

Delia needs another year. I for one was bummed to see Darling traded. If for some reason CC is moved, Darling could man the pipes until Delia is ready. Sounds like Darling was not in the best of shape with the Canes. He is a local kid. I have no doubt he would be dialed in if he came back.

The 8-dman rotation was a disaster for this reason. There are these Kempny quotes coming out, along with Cody Franson echoing the same thing from his condo in Rockford.

I heard quite a bit throughout the year on how their were internal quarrels about this use of the 23 man roster and not a lot of it was good.

I would be surpised if we see any more than 7 dmen on the active roster next year for an extended period of time.

So you're saying that somebody learned something ???? We shall see if there are any philosophical changes from the coaching staff....along with system changes after that nightmare of a season. I just don't see it from Quenneville and I am not confident that he has it in him.

Yet all we hear about is how StanBo let Kempney get away...

would you rather hear about, pick one: trading Panarin for one fourth of fair value or TT as a throwaway in another bad deal.

Goaltending-

Darling- Needs to sink or swim as a 4million $$ starter as teams can’t afford a 4 Million dollar backup

If Hawks have a healthy Crawford I would be thrilled with a $2million Cam Ward x 2 years

I think Hutton signs a $4 Million deal as a starter- but time will tell.

I also like Anderson as a back up but I’m not sure on his status

All this love for Kempny and all he'll ever be is a #5 defenseman. I watch him with the Caps and he still struggles defensively.
- BetweenTheDots

No real love for Kempny. I think he's fine as a 4/5, but nothing special. I'd probably rather have him on the Hawks next year than anyone not named Keith, Murphy or Seabrook (only looking at current roster, not trades or signings). My only point was that Q forced Stanbo's hand, and a third was a pretty good return.

No, but Keith had by far the worst season of his career. Pretty bad by any metric when comparing to his previous standards. -30 is ugly as was his 0 goals for 90% of the Season

Trade Hossa contract and sign Ilya Kovalchuk for 3x $6mil. He’s reportedly looking for a Marleau-esque deal and is that Right Shot LW who could dominate with 88
