Was listen to xm in the car and they were saying he’s really been moving up the boards lately and he probably helped himself at the combine. |

There obvs is difference between a late 1st pick and a third, but the fall off in value is smaller between 25 and 85 than between 5 and 25. I didn't mean to imply a 3rd was as good as a 1st, just noting that value of picks slopes drastically after 5/10 and the gentley from about 25 out until it mostly plateaus.
And yep, there are always gems of players everywhere in draft (and busts too), though history shows (even more recent drafts) that value for picks have stayed the same pretty much year over year. Those gems that fall are still in the probility value range. It's why quantity is a great strategy for late 1st round onward - higher chance to land one of those gems. Good scouting teams should def be able to differentiate but overall across the league the value ranges have stayed consistent. For every Jokiharju at 29 there is an Emerson Etem a different year in the same spot. It's kind of cool, actually.
Merekley is a high reward type of player. It'll be interesting to see what happens with him. - L_B_R
We fundementally disagree which is fine. Many teams make what I believe are completely illogical choices even at #1 or #2. These choices, of course skew the statistics. Nugent-Hopkins at #1 at 150lbs was a ridiculous choice. Toews NOT at #1 or #2 also ridiculous. I believe there are lots of quality players available in every draft assuming a team’s scouts have a clue. I also make no bones about the fact that I am a huge proponent of drafting players with extremely high skill and skating ability. Can’t teach skill. Issues like size are secondary.

In his defense, the physical stats + junior points for Johnson and Staal were quite hard to pass up. Both guys are 6’4” 230lbs compared to Toews 6’2 205lb Thank the hockey Gods Toews fell to 3 and he got to play with Hossa. |

Re: Tavares - in a vacuum, it'd be nice to have another player of his caliber on the Blackhawks but rosters aren't formed in vacuums, they're formed under salary cap constraints. Why would this team, who have been hamstrung by the top two salaries in the entire league, add another guy who would probably be the third top paid player? I'd rather add two or three guys for that $10m per.
Re: Faulk - This makes more sense. Top 4 or maybe Top 2 Dman. Only 26. Two years left at $4.834m. Hawks could use that.

What is with all the love for the Caps tonight? The entire crew is gushing over them. And what is a "reverse hit"? Orpik is too stupid to brace for a hit and it is called a "reverse hit"? Orpik needs his back broken. He is as much a hack as Wilson |

They’re winning 2-0.
They’ve allowed only 10 of 37 SATs to get thru to Holtby - 19 blocks for the Red Shirts.
Who do you want them to gush about - the Blackhawks?
