I think its different when its so high up and you go with an off the board pick.
- rmdevil313

Sometimes it works, I remember Scheifele and Morrissey were both drafted way earlier than they were expected to. Living in Winnipeg I remember how stunned and upset people were and it turned out pretty good.

Definitely wasn't off the board. There were rankings that had Zacha that high.

This was only his 2nd pro season so far. While hasn't succeeded the way other players in his draft class have (Barzal, Provorov, etc.) he has years in front of him to grow. A first round draft pick turning into a 2nd line center is a successful draft pick.

Agreed. He was taken where most had him ranked and there's still plenty of time.

I hope you are all aware Zacha reads this thread and will be un-motivated come preseason. If you want him to do well we must sing his praises and show we stand with him!

My job here is done if he is unmotivated.

Doughty/EK are @ least 3 assets more than any pkg Hanifin will command. And rightly so. No way 1 more piece to get one of them from Hanifin pkg is even close to right.
Now with that said I don't think those guys are worth that, but they will get that for these guys.

A 6'3", 206 lb 21 yr old American from the US Dev program who played at BC (second youngest player at BC to play). Who has most players from BC.....yes NJ. That's right in Shero's wheelhouse!

Carolina needs O, we need LD. Zacha plus is probably right. Our 1st is too much, maybe Q?

The amount of stupidity I just read in these comments is amazing. And that is on me for reading them. To get Hanifan would be great. This year's #1 pick, sure thats viable. But don't start adding Zacha and other assets. Listen, we have not given Mueller near enough chance yet. And Zacha has been stuck with uninspiring linemates for the most part. We are rebuilding. And free agent signings are one thing, giving up on some of our first rounders without giving them a chance is just dumb. Back to my beer now.....

3 assets more? Not for 1 yr left on contract. MAYBE if its a sign and trade.

I don’t see the Devils as potential trading partners with the Canes unless it’s a huge overpayment. I don’t think Zacha would interest the Canes either due to their abundance of two-way centers that are better in the FO circle. The Canes need to address a couple of issues going forward and that’s goaltending followed by an offensively minded center(may already be in the pipeline Necas, Aho may transition to C, Lindholm or Rask may reach a higher gear). Regardless of internal possibilities they’ll remain to be possibilities. But the biggest issue is that it’d be a trade in-division and the better player(now&potential) is going to be overpaid for and as of right now there’s not many players on the Devils that I’d rather have than Noah Hanifin. It’s fun to guess what fair value would be though and I haven’t seen any offers that are necessarily bad for the Canes. I just don’t see Zacha as a centerpiece for a Canes team thats two glaring flaws is goal scoring and goaltending. Just my two cents.

I guess that pick of Zacha instead of Provorov is looking bad?

http://www.mynhldraft.com...-draft/prospect-rankings/

Only 2 had him 9 or higher, with a few much lower, and one of the McKenzie's whose list is more of a "where they will probably go based on sources information" than a true ranking.

I think Hannafin would help esp. on the left side.

But I would not give up Zacha or a 1st round for him.
Carolina has a reason to have him on the block.

I would give them Quenneville and a 3 or maybe Mcloed.+ ... but not much more. A prospect for a prospect.

Ian Cole

DeHaan
UFA left shooting Dman can be had for free.

DeHaan hits. and is only 28

Although Carlson Lead NHL Dmen in pints . is big and young.
Not often the top NHL scoring DMAN is available.

100% agree.... the amount of people chirping a 21 year old centre saying he is a bust in insane. As for Mueller, he's what 22? and was injured for a big chunk of the year... people just don't understand lol

unless Hischier turns into Crosby during the offseason, I really don't see us doing much more than we did this season. leading to another mid 1st pick.. and more fears of mediocrity.. Cory eventually aging.. Hall eventually leaving... and we fade into darkness..

Kinda "Prophet of Doom" with that post....but seriously, our rebuild needed another top 5 draft player, and some of previous round 1 picks to start performing to their draft pedigree. No sure things there, but time will tell. And with mid round picks in the future, Taveras, Carlson or Van Riemsdyk might be the way to go.

I was thinking, JVR would be a great linemate for Zacha because JVR loves being around the net which suits Zachas play and they are both big bodies. Throw Bratt in there for his speed and shiftiness and could have something special.

unless Zacha sees a sports psychologist, and/or starts the white powder, I just don't see him sticking as a 2nd line player. He lacks drive and assertiveness. I know he's young, but he's consistently looked like that 2 years in. depressing.
