Trade them both so we don't have that problem ever again.

Who wants to give us their best players and prospects for these guys?

Every Islander Fan loved Hamonic as a person. But over the last 2 seasons he was with us, we all noticed a pretty steady decline in play. That trade Garth made was honestly amazing. Too bad he's too much of a moron to realize he needed to replace Hamonic and not just sit on his ass all summer/season long.

It took awhile for Hamilton and Gio to work things out but they turned into one of the top defensive pairs in the league. I am willing have a wait and see attitude with Brodie and Hamonic. With a new system to develop under and a summer to reset they might be able to get that needed chemistry.

That said with having Andersson, Valimaki and Kylinton in the system I would be ok with either Brodie or Hamonic being a part of a big trade to bring in some secondary scoring with some draft pick(s) or a top line RW to play with Gaudreau and Monahan.

I wouldn’t be terribly upset if that 2nd pair remained stays quo. But I think Kulak is ready to pair up with Hamonic. While any # of our prospects could fill in at #6/7. Move Brodie while GMs still see that top pair potential. I think he’ll bounce back with a new coach or fresh start on a new team. It’s not like he’s suddenly become a fringe NHLr. He’s still a legit 2nd pair D at worst.

Yeah I would not be sad if they traded Brodie. Not sure Kulak is ready but no better way to find out.

Let's see if Brodie can bounce back away from GG and his staff

Brodie is overrated by flames fan/media and as another mentioned Harmonic has been in steady decline.

The price was high to get Harmonic and while his play has not been great IF he returns to form/develops some chemistry with someone he may end up being worth the risk the Flames took getting him. He is exactly the type of defender the Flames need.

Things change so much from year to year for players/teams/coaches I think its too early to be too down on the trade/pairing.

for brodie the one thing I think that really played against him was that GG kept him as LD, he just couldn't get passed LSH plays LD, and RHS plays RD.

Brodie seemed to thrive better as a RD. His backhand pass driving into the middle was almost sharper then his forehand. And in games were Brodie stood out he was driving in to attack, not staying back on the point for a shot.

As a pro, sure he should be able to get passed this. But I think if Peters makes his pairings more on play style and less on who's a right hand left hand, it could help.

And to be competitive in playoffs two pairings is pretty essential. Nash was a good example, playing long minutes for Suban and Josi finally caught up to them

I would be willing to see them play a bit more together in a different system, but would have a short leash if they were poopty.

Trading either for the right top-6 winger doesn't hurt my feelings, either. I have a suspicion that the depth in our organization is substantial at D. What we do not have is any step-in-and-score wingers.

I'm more curious on what qualifies as a "butt ton". I think LW/RW can be fairly interchangeable at the NHL level, and guys like JVR and Chucky are probably more adept at it, as they score within 5-10 feet of the net anyways.

He shoots left and will want a terrible contract so no thanks.

Brodie's situation is a tough one. On the one hand, he could probably fetch some scoring help (and more) but on the other, he could bounce back under Peters. His "decline" started with Gully so it's hard to say what caused it.

Yeah if Brodie nets us a Top 6 scoring winger then I think Tre should pull the trigger. All accounts say Rass is ready to make the jump abd Kulak might be able to jump into the Top 4, and there's still a possibility of Valimaki or Kylington being ready too.

Trading a defenseman for forward help makes a lot of sense for this team and I think Tre is going to be exploring that. I'd be fine if Brodie and Hamonic are given another look under a new coach but I think trading one of them (I'd say more likely Brodie) makes a lot of sense for the Flames.

I think we will see Brodie moved and either fox moved or Kylington moved to make room for Fox.

JAG = Just A Guy

To me he's just a guy. I think he's easily replaceable. If he's in the top 4 we are in trouble.

I could be wrong of course.....

Peters already commented that Brodie was a right defenseman in his opinion. That causes a major problem for Treliving because he has a right defense of Hamilton, Brodie, Hamonic, Stone and Anderson with Fox waiting in the wings. He also has a left defense of Giordano, Kulak, Wotherspoon and Kylington with Valamaki in the wings.

It is quite possible that Valimaki and Fox are a number 1 pairing 5 years from now but at this time left side defense is pretty thin and the right side is overcrowded.

The first step has to be trading Stone, second step is to trade either Brodie or Hamonic. The won't get much for Stone but they didn't pay much. They won't get much for Hamonic or Brodie and that is an embarrassment. The tough choice is who will fit with Kulak on the second pairing and improve in value over the season. The best solution may be to start with:
Gio Hamilton
Kulak Brodie
Valimaki Anderson
Wotherspoon

and end the season
Gio Hamilton
Valimaki Brodie
Kulak Anderson
Wotherspoon

However it will be an answer to prayer if I never see Stone Bartkowski again as a Flames pairing. Maybe the Oilers are interested

Draisaitl for Stone? That’s a Chiarelli trade. 👍

I wonder what it would take to get Pullybird outta edmonton. 6'4 210lbs rw rhs. We all had boners for him not too long ago. I dont think edmonton have much on the right side like us, so prob never happen.
