He’ll be in the opening night Canuck lineup barring an injury

That would be disappointing. He won basically everything you can as an individual and a team...why bother going back. NHL or AHL if he’s to small / scared.
- canucksfan1944

So if you won the Hart, Conn Smythe and Stanley cup the same year would you quit hockey? Did he break the scoring record (not rookie)? Did he lead his team to a record number of championships? Is he the best player in the history of Swedish hockey? I would say he still has a lot to prove...

Interesting to see you guys laughing about a video game addiction. It might seem harmless but addiction is addiction. You might not be laughing so much if the kid was addicted to coke or meth

Unless it’s to the point where he’s starving himself or dehydrating himself, yeah, it’s kinda funny that’s he’s throwing away his chance at potentially making millions because he can’t stop playing video games. His parents/guardians are probably to blame too. My mom would slap me on the side of the head if I was playing video games for more than an hour or 2 in a single day.

It’s not like he was some poor kid who grew up in the streets and was introduced to hard drugs at a young age.

drama queen much? Malkin, Nick Lidstrom, Peter Forsberg, Markus Naslund etc. etc. all stayed in Europe for a couple years before they came over. All busts to be sure!
- LeftCoaster

Lol - I was joking on the bust part. Not the it would be alarming part. I don’t for one second believe he won’t be on the Canucks next season

Just because someone isn't poverty stricken doesn't mean they don't deserve sympathy. He's at a critical point in his life where something that is probably a dream of his could be slipping away because of an addiction. Sounds pretty rough to me.

They actually have video game addiction camps these days. He can get help if he wants it.

His life is not at risk(at least that I know of) and he can get help. The fact his former/current GM knows about it means that his friends/family likely do as well.

There’s plenty of teenagers who play video games 5+ hours daily, hell, some of them are actually making a living out of it through gaming tournaments and YouTube videos. They’re likely addicted, but yet that’s fine?

And how did it get to this point? If he’s already seriously addicted as a young adult then he was clearly not given discipline as a child.

I'm just saying addiction isn't something to make fun of. Just because it's not life threatening doesn't mean it's not life altering. Young hockey players only have a few short years to make it into the big league and see their dreams come true.

Watching an addiction take that away from someone isn't funny, and you can always say about anyone "They could get help if they wanted it" which imo is insensitive. Yes I'm sure the people around him in his life are going to get him back on track but could you imagine if this takes a career in hockey away from him how many years he will spend of his life regretting what happened?

I don't recall too many people around here having much sympathy for Kassian? Get that (frank)in idiot outta here was the common theme.

What's your point? I didn't even have a HB account until a year after he was traded. Unless you're saying they should have had more sympathy in which case I agree

Not about you, just saying people don't care about that stuff when it's not personal. This is the non caring interweb, we only like players or prospects if they're successful.

I get where you’re coming from. I still found it funny on the surface. Hopefully he gets his poop together, just because I found it amusing, doesn’t mean I don’t want him to succeed.

Not like me laughing at it on HB will have any effect on his life.

I guess that's true. And people deserve license to be able to joke around with their buddies about things they might not say in front of just anyone and that's fine,

I guess I just find it an odd choice when I would guess most know someone who has struggled with addiction at some point in their lives. Not trying to rain on anybodys parade

It's true, just thought I'd make the point since many posters probably wouldn't take this kind of addiction seriously either because of age or they've never seen it firsthand.

Anyways, carry on...

I don't know anyone who's struggled with addiction, I may have lived a shallow life thus far?

Does porn count? Cause I know Vantel and that nullifies the above statement

We are trying to build a team. You want people that are passionate. I honestly have little time or compassion for a player who would rather play Fortenight than practice. We all have addictions. We all have jobs . You have to decide what is more important . If he is hitting the keyboard instead of hitting the gym then that explains his progress.

Fair enough.

I mean there’s posters on here who have gone through much worse(Vantel recently, Booner’s entire life) so I’d be careful about telling people what they can and can’t take seriously.

Better to just stick to hockey and light hearted jokes.

Btw Lefty is right about porn lol, it’s a bigger issue than video game addiction. It’s been linked to erectial disfunction, anxiety and depression.
