Looks like Edmonton has signed Swedish right shot defenseman Joel Persson. In his first year with the SHL he had 34 points.

Young guy and his first year in the SHL after making the jump. As a depth signing it is fine and a decent idea to bring in players like this. Now if Chiarelli does this and says "we've finished our moves on the backend" then we have a big problem.

He only cost us cash so I’m okay with it. More competition in camp the better.

Guy was a part time teacher a year ago. Be curious to see how this guy looks after training properly. Very interesting curve. Not sure he'll ever be much here, but seems like he's found a way to make some money doing something that was a part time gig for him just a year ago.

Lehner and Bogo ($2.5m retained) for Montoya.

You get a career .915, 200-game RFA to do with what you please. You pay Bogo 3 mil for 2 years

Nah. No interest in either I’m afraid. Especially not Bogosian.

The problem I foresee is Chiarelli thinking this will be adequate for the Oilers blue line issues. See Montoya and Koskinen.

I've said this before, but I don't see the blueline as an issue that needs much focus this year. It's far from perfect and could certainly use a high end puck mover, but those types are rarely traded and ones who are likely won't be worth the cost of acquisition. A winger or two for Draisaitl has to be priority #1, #2 and #3.

Draft a high end Dman and keep steady for a year or two as you phase out Russell and Sekera and see what you have in Benning, Bear, Jones and the draft pick.

Problem for Chia is if he doesn’t vastly improve the team from last year he is gone. So he can’t be patient and wait.

I think the winger addition would do more to improve the team's regular season results than any Dman other than Karlsson would.

Anyone see that tweet from Dellow mentioning Ridhaug saying he thinks they’re going big for a dman and mentioned Klef and #10 for Risto?

I did... I wouldn't do either of those pieces straight across for Ristolainen

If he made that trade I'd be officially done with the Oilers... next season is make or break.

I’d give them the 10th or Klefbom for Ristolainen without hesitation. But I sure as poop wouldn’t be willing to pony up both.

I'd do the 10th and something but Nurse, Klefbom and Larsson wouldn't be the add on. Maybe Benning or one of our prospect d-men not named Bear or Jones.
