Rick Nash is likely taking a considerable, Brad Richards-esque pay cut. If that's the case then would you want to hang onto him? I know he didn't show up much on the score sheet, but in the leafs series, I thought he was a consistent threat - just couldn't find the back of the net. He plays a good two way game as well, which is great to have behind Bergeron.
I'm guessing he goes too though, someone like Edmonton or NYI will offer him 5m or something... |

Rather make room for Bjork, Donato, Studnicka and Senyshyn to compete for spots. Nash is Lucic level inconsistent. Rather see what the future can offer.
I'd keep:
Khudobin
Gryz
Kuraly
Hickman
Holden (Better 7th Dman than Postma)

I would like them to keep Riley, Schaller, Gryz and Kuraly.
Riley Nash proved that he can be Patrice light. Depends on the money though. |

edit: oops. grzelcyk and kurlay are rfa's. maybe the leafs take a look at nash and schaller if they hit the open market. |

I wouldn't mind Rick Nash for around 4 million if the money isn't going anywhere else. If nothing else but to push the kids to play. I can't remember really how well Bjork did. I remember he started the year playing with Marchand and Bergeron and played pretty well. But he may get passed by Donato.
I also think we pay Riley whatever he expects. I'd go up to 3 million per year for him. |

After looking at cap money, there's about 10 million in space.
If we give Riley 2.5 million, Kuraly 1, Schaller 1, Holden 1.5, Gryz 2 and Khudobin 2, everyone can be locked up. I know it doesn't always work that easily, but I don't see it being a problem. If Holden, Schaller or Kuraly want more, they can walk and be replaced by the farm.
And after looking at it more, do not sign Rick Nash at all. No space. And those 4th line guys need maybe one year deals. In 2019-2020 we have to lock up Donato, Heinen, McAvoy, and Carlo, while replacing Chara and either resigning or replacing McQuaid. If all 10 million is used on these guys for next season, then there will be about 12 million for those 6 important roster players. |

If the money and term are good, I'm not opposed to resigning Rick Nash. He looked good before his concussion and neither Nash ever fully got their game back in the play-offs.
But, I think Riley will get a better deal somewhere else then the Bruins would be willing to pay.
And, if the deal was right I could see the Bruins parting ways with Krug now that Gryz has become essentially the same cheaper player. |

I do not want Rick Nash at all. He is going to get a contract with length on it and he is at the passenger portion of his career. HARD PASS. |

I'd imagine Carlo being in the 2nd pair. But if Miller played like he did last season, than that might actually be better for Carlo as he continues to develop.
McQuaid could be a really good 7th option allowing the Bruins to let Holden walk. |

Fine with me. Hopefully Sweeney can swing a deal to recoup the waste of a 1st round Nash was. |

I have a feeling the lineups going to look a lot different next year, specifically the 3rd line. That lines a big reason the team flamed out. I predict Riley is gone and Backes role is reduced. I think the B’s need to trade for or sign a good 3C(like a Brassard). Someone to bridge the gap to Frederik, jfk, Studnicka.
I also lean towards breaking up that top line. 63/37 don’t need Pasta to be a great line. I think it’s impossible to guess next years lineup until we see some moves made but my best guess would be
Marchand Bergeron Bjork
Debrusk Krejci Pasta
Donato New Guy Heinen
Gabrielle Kuraly Backes

Czarnik had a pretty solid year in Providence. Might see him in there. Could make for an interesting third line.

Forget about Rick Nash... there's no space on the roster for him, and there's certainly no need to tie up any cap on a player like him.
I'd love to see them bring Riley Nash back, but I think contracts like Krejci and Backes are going to prevent them from doing that. With the money tied up in those two guys, combined with buyouts of Seidenberg/Hayes, retaining salary on Beleskey, bonuses on ELC contracts, and paying Chara almost $7m, they aren't going to have the room to keep around those good depth pieces. They're going to have to swap them out for guys on ELCs or guys making NHL minimum, and that's going to make it harder for them to repeat the success. Not saying they can't do it, just that they're going to need to have new players step in and have immediate success, and it's hard to do that year in, year out. |

The way they get injured though, I'd like the comfort of an 8th defenceman. Unless we trade for a depth guy at the deadline. |

I disagree with needing a new guy. There are many young players chomping at the bit. I also doubt Backes plays on the 4th line. The 3rd line of Nash, Heinen and Backes played well during the season when they were together. Plus if they don't have money to sign Riley, they won't have money for a Brassard-esque player.
I do agree with moving Pasta though. Wish they would have shaken it up against Tampa, but that's beating a dead horse. I like your top 6, but if Bjork doesn't pan out, Donato can step in there. You also left out Acciari who I think will keep that spot over Gabrielle.

I'd actually like to see them bring in another Dman, Chara's no longer a #1, clearly. mcAvoy still isnt there, I know they would have to trade some assets, but they are bottom heavy on D. |
