This fan is mainly shocked at the ineptitude of all 30 other GMs in allowing a team of all "rejects" or "castoffs" to be a Top 4 team in the entire league year 1......You'd have to think that Seattle will get the same Expansion Draft rules, right? Might be more likely to see Toews/Seabrook head to Seattle next summer......
- EnzoD

Don't forget much more generous draft rules - much more generous to the expansion team - than in previous situations: VGK was general picking among the top 10 or 12 players on a roster (even better considering that players with NMC/NTC had to be part of the protected players).

League wide, they effectively were able to go after a lot of middle-6 F / 3-4-5 D skaters - plus, of course, Fleury.

If I were in Seattle and paying $650,000,000 to get into the league, I certainly would not accept anything less generous.

I don't know Enzo...I saw you and Darth discussing this. Seems that Vegas got a ton of breaks coming in here especially in their 'expansion' draft. Lot of other teams and fan bases probably not terribly thrilled with how this worked out.

As far as the clickbait regarding Toews...lol...but both Bowman and Bergevin are under the gun to upgrade/make changes this offseason.

- DK002

Not trying to be combative here, but what breaks did they get? It's not like they were allowed to pick from every teams' best players. Credit to them for constructing a team that would buy in and all play the system to a T. People were skewering them after the draft because they had too many D-men. They signed Shipachyev (sp) - who everyone was praising at the time - and buried him and sent him home.

I'm repeating myself a bit here, but again, we complain that the hawks have too many middle/bottom six players and not enough top-end talent. Vegas is constructed with (at least considered at the time) middle to bottom six players. I think the only "top line" player you can pinpoint on the team might be James Neal (before the season started).

Juicy rumors coming out of Carolina. Looks like they are heavily interested in Jonathan Toews and hearing they have a firm offer on Brett Pesce. Ever since reports have come out that the only untouchable is Aho, teams have been gearing up to take advantage.

What could they offer Toews to induce him to suspend his NMC/NTC/whatever-it-is?

I guess it’s officially the Summer of Toews....it would be mind blowing to see the Hawks trade 19.....

If true, and they are moving him (or trying to) they better get an absolute haul back. Say what you will about his shortcomings, he is still the best center on this team.

Obviously completely hypothetical, but if they go into next season with AA, Schmaltz, Kampf, and Ejdsell (or whoever) down the middle and say anything other than "we are starting over" Stan and Co are either lying, certifiable, or completely in denial. I'm not sure which one is scarier.

if rumors are true...it seems teams are starting to explore their options with Toews... I wonder if there will be other teams linked to his name coming out in the next few days...

yes. absolutely agree. i don't think they will move him. JJ put up an article a few hours ago on the-rink. I would be STUNNED if he was moved.

I think moving Hossa's contract and Anisimov are extremely possible and more realistic than the Hawks moving Toews.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Schmaltz or Debrincat are moved this summer if the right deal presents itself.

I just read JJ's report as well. I believe I stated that I didn't think the odds were that high the 19 would be moved, but IF they moved him, it would need to bring back a lot of pieces.

Regarding JJ's points about their rumored draft targets (Walstrom, Dobson), I would have no issue with either. Especially since there are no "great" centers in this draft. I'm of the mind that you prioritize centers and defensemen first and wingers/goalies second (unless there is just immense talent present). You can never have enough of the former.

PER JJ:The Hawks might be willing to part with the #27 overall for the right return.

I can't see 19 being moved with the #8 pick going with it. That's a huge cap hit to move for guy who has had very average years the last 3 seasons.

Most people on this board would be thrilled to move Toews. Here is something to think about.

If he played on a line on another good team with a true LW and true RW for a full season (and not have to play with 2nd or 3rd line wingers, and not have to play with different line mates every few games or every few shifts) I believe you would see 25 to 30 goals, 35 to 40 assists, a very good plus minus, playing in all situations, against the opponents top centers and defenders, winning faceoffs, and a great leader in the locker room. Is that worth $10.5mil. Who is.

If you move him you lose your top center, top PK man, top faceoff man and a leader in the locker room.

You probably would have to eat some salary and you would get a 2nd line center (not many teams will trade their #1c) or top pairing defender, a highly rated prospect, a #1 pick and maybe some cap relief.

Be careful what you ask for.

I would prefer they go out and sign or trade for a 1st Line RW. Play him with Toews and Saad for 5 months (without line juggling). If they do not produce, then trade him at the TDL and go into full rebuild.

I know Toews isn't worth $10.5 million, but the team is worse off without him. Anything is possible, but I would be shocked if he's moved.

Per JJ, he only gets moved if he asks to. Why would he ask to when he can get paid 10.5 mil to be an underperforming 2nd line center at best? Seems like we're stuck with Cpt. ONNIT

I'm surprised that people really don't see Tavares headed to Chicago. Tavares would LOVE to go to Chicago and there is no way in hell that Tavares is getting 15m like some are reporting. I can see Tavares headed to Chicago even if Toews stays. I can definitely see him signing for 10.5 mil/.

He gets paid the same regardless of what team he is on, or what he is asked/required to do. He could go to a couple different places and be under a bit less pressure/scrutiny.
