Sign him and let the chips fall as they may. Plus the guy looks like a goof, give him a contract to fix himself up |

Todd Cordell: The New Jersey Devils should let Brian Gibbons test free agency - Todd.Cordell
2 for 2, Todd. He got off to an unreal, unsustainable start, and came back to life towards the end. Let him walk and open up a spot for competition. I know some will suggest his PK skills should warrant him a contract, but when he was out the second half of the year did anyone really notice a dip? |

I think Gibbons was on a two way contract and I wouldn't mind signing him and keeping him around; meaning on the farm. I appreciate the effort he put in but his contract isn't really a priority.
I'm not confident we are signing Maroon, but I sure would like to. |

I think its time Quenv. gets a full time shot so thats one roster spot. Mcleod prob another. Maybe Anderson shows his poop so thats 3. No room for Gibbs |

Two-way contract just means he makes less money at the AHL level. Would require waivers either way. |

Great read Todd. Gib can, and maybe should walk as we have plenty of youth knocking at the door. He had a decent season 12G 14A, but nothing special, and at 30 years old he should be licking his chops at the opportunity to get a 1 way contract. Certainly a sub 1M player. I am however hoping we can resign RFA's Wood, Coleman, Noesen all to some cheap extensions shortly. Coleman and Wood are absolute workhorses on the bottom 6. Love what they bring to the table. |

I think they should bring him back if he's willing to sign a one or two year deal. Someone has to be the 13th/14th forward. Gibbons is exactly the type of player who would be a fit for that role. Especially since we know he can kill a penalty effectively. He also has enough trust by the coaching staff that they'll play him, but not enough that he's the new Stephen Gionta. And, while too much stock is generally put into this type of thing, I like the idea of having a guy who isn't going to take anything for granted on the roster. A 30 year-old who spent 2 seasons in the AHL before this past one and has to fight for a roster spot is exactly the type of player you want in practice.
He's not someone who the Devils will miss if they let him go, but I'm not against bringing him back in a depth type role. |
