t's easy to see that the head was hit, but the point should be that Wilson's hit was a typical hockey hit that ended badly. If at the last 2nd a player ducks down and Wilson was already following through with the hit, then there can't be any fault placed on Wilson....WTF is Wilson supposed to do? Pull a Matrix and slow down time to avoid the other player?

If slow mo instant replay has to be looked at a 1000 times to determine whether a hit is clean or not, than its not a fair assessment of something that happened in a split-second at full-speed.

How the hell did they let that trip on Maatta go? Wilson just goes up and slew foots him and the puck goes the other way.

NHL reffing is such a joke.

His chin/jaw is the first thing getting hit there. Even from that angle its evident.

So now RW is an expert on veteran affairs?

Kessel sucks this year and is Brassard even playing?

Maata set the GW G up nicely for the Caps.

Wilson hit last night was fine, GM 2 not so much.

Neither side will ever agree with the other so it is pointless to keep spinning around and around.. Fact of the matter is, if Malkin is delivering that exact hit (which he has done before), then Pens nation would be calling it clean. Parros has at least shown some balls in suspending "good" players like Kadri and Doughty, so the only explanation is that he hates the penguins and wants them all to get injured..

The NHL has proven this year its the worst run league in North America. Not just the Pens, every series has terrible calls. Bruins/Bolts was pathetic. Does the NFL have make up calls? Yeah def a trip on Maata.....still horrible play on his part though.

Maatta was taken out of the play by a Wilson slew foot. Even though Maatta turned it over, he would have been able to get back in the play if Wilson doesn't blatantly come from behind and trip him down.

He's got a hearing.... so I'm guessing he is not fine.

It's very close, but there was definitely contact to the head. I think Wilson knew he was going to get him in spots that would take him out of the game. Head included. I think they also need to take into account the intent to injure. I believe he knew what he was doing. Seemed pretty pleased with himself on the bench, laughing away.

Wilson>Thanos

Some other observations....

Kessel is most definitely hurt, at this point something has to give. Either he sits or plays with Sid or Geno full time.

Can we trade Letang and Olli for a used 1981 Buick Skylark. Olli looks like he's wearing roller blades on ice and Letang is the most reckless player ever.

Finally if Murray finds his footing we win this series, Caps don't scare me as much as they did last year.

I really wouldnt. I never ever defended Cooke's hits or anyone else on the Pens dirty hits.

If the league really wanted to get rid of head shots they would:
1: Any time a player is suspended and/or fined, the player's team and coach will also be fined.
2: The fine to a team and will double each time said player is fined.
3: Any suspended player may not be replaced on the roster until that player returns from suspension (So the team must play down a man the duration of the suspension)
4: The department of player safety should be lead by a former NHL referee.
5: The DOPS should be able to alert the refs if they see a suspendible action in game, notifying the refs to remove the player from the game (similar to a Toronto goal review).

Wilson has realized that as long as he comes close to making contact with a shoulder before delivering his head shots he will get away with it. They only empowered him more by letting the dirty play in game 2 go where it was an blatant blind side headshot.

He could have easily avoided contact altogether in the game 2 hit if thats what he was concerned about.

This one he could have easily made a shoulder on shoulder hit but that was not his target, the head was. Not to mention he jumped into it and ended up in the bench. How the refs don't call this poop on the ice is beyond me.

It's sad... Tom Wilson and the refs are the biggest difference makers so far in this series, not the guys going out and actually playing hockey.

You don't have to answer on here, but if you think that is true, ask yourself if you believe that Crosby should have ever faced discipline for any of his nonsense. Everyone looks at guys on their favorite teams with homer bias, it is pretty natural to give them the benefit if the doubt. (Unless they are despicable garbage like Cooke, Torres, Avery, and even Marchand now)

Rents, that still shot is just before contact. (Kreider is too used to his still shots - you know the ones, the money shots that are just before contact)

Charging would be 1 charge. Hitting too hard another.

No one here would argue that Malkin isn't dirty. Bringing Malkin up has no bearing on what Wilson did considering everyone acknowledges that Malkin makes stupid, boneheaded, dirty plays.

Yes. He should have should have faced discipline for his spears to players nuts. Malkin should have for slew foots. Neither of them are saints and they both deserve their fair share of criticism and discipline.
