Ok what is forsling in the last 2 years hasn't made pass the half way mark of the nhl season is there potential yes there is a lot on the offense side but very questionable in his own zone postionally not very sound and seems to shy away from contact and yes it takes time to develop I get that personally I m not drinking the koolaid on him at best maybe a 5 in my opinion hope I'm proven wrong. If it means giving him up for Hamilton I do it even sikrua is included to of course something else would have to come back like ferland or a 2nd but to get a top 4 d man you have give something up. any other d man come to mind of the top of your head?

Jokiharju. And they would push Brodie instead of Hamilton. Hamilton vis -a -vis media reports did not acclimate himself well with teamattes and his city in Boston and at first when he came to Calgary.
I believe you have the correct design for this trade (major components) but changing personnel is tricky; maybe not each of the players is moved whom you or i suggest.
Also If you are Calgary GM you aren't trading a dman for a late first unless my scouts really hound me to take so and so late first. Even then it is more about changing out one or two players so that they have a different look and they imagine a better team. A team more capable.
Missing the playoffs despite the talented and nicely blended roster does evoke some sort of response and i question if it is merely just dismissing the head coach. In fact, they seemed to hem and haw before letting the coach go.
What they might do next is naturally going to be re-defining the roster. But they have a good mix of skill, toughness, skating, experience. Henceforth my comment about a nucely blended roster and, in my original response, referance made to Smith being adequate though they may need to develop a back up netminder in the AHL.
The league is going more and more to speed. But in the playoffs you also see teams whom have plenty of players displaying grit and push back.
Ordinarily you don't go trade a D Hamilton. But if you look at your prospect pool and you really would like to add a certain type of player, how do you get him So for us to get someone the stature of Hamilton, we must trade our first earliest choice. Or possibly if they really like someone we have previously drafted - ok, say Jokiharju.
Maybe that is the change - change out one of your dmen for a different player. Add a prospect from the first round as well.
Personally i do not make such a trade if i am Calgary. But i suggest it takes an offer like that to bring a Hamilton or some other good dman here. Someone better than deHahn. And including Jurco or rights to Duclair? Forget about that. Nobody wants them. Maybe in a waiver claim, but not as part of a trade. They are not a sweetener to make the trade go.
In fact just discard the sweetener idea. It is our top player, top prospect, top choice which has to balance out in terms of value going the other way. No Jurco, Duclair. Maybe an extra later pick or some other prospect gets included, but not our fringe players.
