Maybe it would be logical if there were a McDavid, a Mathews, a Kane in the draft - there isn't - a quality player(s) at the top who could immediately help a team, but not a franchise changer.

I'm reading more a very valuable top pairing guy - who could contribute immediately - great to get - not a sure franchise player like the ones noted.

I don't get the argument that Kane made anyone he played with better either. Not one player he's ever played with had their career year on his line. He just always gets his own points.

Now you are just being contrary for the sake of it. We say “you know Kane does lots of charity work.” You say “No he doesnt”. We say “Kane has a great relationship with his family.” You say “No he doesn’t.”

This latest comment makes no sense whatsoever. None. First Kane has rarely had elite line-mates. In his career he should have played much more with Toews but Q has been obstinate. Bickel had a great play-offs before MS struck him down - playing with Kane. Buff had great play-offs - playing with Kane. Kane possesses the puck all the time. Anyone filling the role of C and LW on his line are immediately better.

Did you watch Hossa when he was in OTT or ATL? He topped 40g, 100pts. It's a crime he never won a Selke and was the biggest reason #19 has his Selkes - and any lone he played on, for that matter. So no doubt hes elevated whatever linemates hes played on. It Hossa was Canadian, he'd be revered even more.

Most trophies are popularity contests versus actual best players for that specific/voted on by reporters trophies

If you put McDavid with the hawks championship teams they likely still win it. If you put ka e on the oilers now they don't win poop. Kane didn't win those cups by himself and McDavid isn't the reason the oilers are not good now.

GP please. Prior to the season there were loads of people saying the Oilers were going to make it to the Cup Final. The very first reason that the Oilers started very poorly was because McDavid played very poorly and became frustrated. The fact the McDavid won the scoring title this year is irrelevant to the argument that he is a dominant player. The reason - the vast majority of his points came only once the Oilers were playing meaningless games and many of their games became high-scoring. This is the opposite of Leadership. Same for Mathews who completely froze in the play-offs again. Kane on the other hand thrived under pressure as a young player. Kane 3-5-8 against Philly including the winning OT goal as a 21 year-old. Kane is in the highest tier of NHL players and has been for a long time regardless of which words we use to describe that tier.

Kane has more points than any player over the last 3yrs.

Only Crosby has more if you go the past 5 (Sid has 47 more points the last 5yrs while playing 18 more games.)

1st American to lead the NHL in scoring ever and may go down as the best American ever to play the game.

Kane would have piled on points as the collarbone season ended and he likely would have beaten Crosby for another Art Ross.

Actually, over the last 5+ seasons Crosby has been lining up with Rust, Sheary, Guentzel, Hornqvist, Kunitz, Perron, Dupius as the primary guys on his line. This isn't like Q putting Kane/Panarin on the ice together every chance he got.

Kane will be in the HOF, but he isn't the best player of his generation.

It would have helped at least somewhat. A lot of the publicity and news reports derive from Canadien cities. A Cansdien player wins an award is a big deal. More so than non Canadien
