I hope not. Maybe 1 season to acclimate to the pro game.

I think Spezza would be a solid one year stop gap guy. Dallas needs to shed some salary. Maybe make a trade and they retain some money. he makes 7.5 now but can you get them to take it down to 4.5? I know he had a down year this year but was a productive player last year.

I wouldn't be surprised if they got a 3rd line center type in a simmonds trade. maybe a youngish NHL vet.

- J35Bacher

Not a fan personally - the league has moved toward a faster style of play continously.

That would be my concern with Spezza, and a real focus for anyone brought in/drafted.

I think 2... next year LHV following year here and he'd beat any current guy.

Elliott hasn't been a bust.

Weal was a trade not a FA. Yes he resigned him but that's more of a going with the devil you know thing. Plus Weal didn't get a full look last year. It was a cheap signing to hope he continued.

- dragonoffrost

Not a bust, but he's certainly not the answer. If you are being fair you'd have to say Hextall has been awful in free agency. He hasn't supplemented the young talent with any savvy signings. And on the other side of the coin he's done a really good job when it comes to the draft.

I would try and get O'Reilly out of Buffalo in a Simmonds trade personally. Not sure what it would take though. If you could do lets say Simmonds and a 2nd for O'Reilly and getting Buffalo to eat about 3/4 mil in salary I would do it. I feel like you are going to have to really entice them to get them to eat any salary though so that's why I think you have to throw in a 2nd or decent prospect.
- FreshFlyer

(frank) it. Just get Tavares and run Tavares, Patrick, Couturier down the middle. He's the perfect age to fit into this teams window.

I don't think the smartest plan is to fast track a goalie to the NHL personally. Teams haven't had a lot of success doing that in the past. I mean look at what the Leafs did to Justin Pogge when they tried to do that completely shattered his confidence and he was never the same. He was deemed can't miss just like Hart is. If the Flyers rush Hart it won't turn out well for either party. But I have no concern Hextall doesn't rush prospects. Hart is going to take some time, 2-3 years most likely just like every other goalie.

Maybe definitely going to be 2 or 3 though. I don't see the Flyers rushing his development and they shouldn't.

If they can get rid of Simmonds and sign Johnny T for around 8 to 9 mil I wouldn't be against it. I feel like he'll get 10 though and I'm not sure if the Flyers could afford to fit him in at that number when they are going to have to resign Provorov, TK, and Patrick eventually.

To each their own. I mean he is a very good 2 way guy and would be perfect in a 3C role in my opinion. If you trade Simmonds for him and get Buffalo to eat 3mil a season his cap hit is only 4.5 mil for the remainder of his contract and that is pretty solid. I'd rather have O'Reilly at 4.5 then Simmonds , I think it makes them a deeper team.

Hahaha.

I don't think he'll take 10. Remember people said that's what it was going to take to resign Stamkos.

I do think some of these guys know that they can't go too big or it just cripples your team. I think Stamkos knew that and needed to save some room to keep a solid team around him.

He might not but I bet there is a team out there that would offer that to him.

Personally I think he stays with the NYI.

There are players who you overpay for, and those who you dont. Tavares is one of them.

Hypothetically you have 2.3 on Raffl and Weise, along with 5 for Mac + 3.5 for Gudas. Guys who are primary targets to be replaced by the cheap kids in my eyes.

There might be. Just like people assumed Stamkos would go to Toronto for 10 million.

I just believe some of these guys do look at the team and the window. Tavares would fit right into the window of the Flyers. Add him and this team should be a contender for the foreseeable future.

I would assume that's what usually happens but it probably differs from player to player. I mean I'm sure there are guys out there that are all about the money. I don't see Tavares as being one of those guys but who really knows.

The money would definitely be there for the Flyers to make a run at him but with his current philosophy I don't see Hextall trying to pursue him, I'd love to be wrong though. I don't see Hextall making a big free agent splash until this team is a contender. You're right NYI will likely sign him and if they don't they are complete idiots.

If we trade Simmonds for picks/prospects and can somehow dump Weise I'd put an offer out there. Certainly wouldn't be an insane dollar amount but something fair. He probably wouldn't end up taking it anyway with Toronto no doubt offering stupid money. But I would kick the tires. Couldn't hurt.

I am guessing he gets something that ends up being a 8.5-9 million cap hit.

And I understand Hextalls approach so understand it's unlikely but it could be the super sneak attack that know one sees.

For me - the biggest "need" so to speak is the goalie.

Carter Hart is ideally that guy but I dont think its fair for the organization to simply wait for him. You hope he pans out but to just squander the next few years hoping for that I am kind of iffy with.

Part of me hopes they would at least put out feelers for a guy like Dubnyk or Crawford but I do think we see Elliot with either Stolarz/Lyon next year. Which isn't all that crazy as you might as well give the kids you have been developing a shot.

I’m bored at work. Question: Would you trade Voracek if it meant we signed Tavares? Before you answer or call me naughty names: I love Voracek and have no desire to trade him. Just looking for some fun work distractions.
