Despite an obvious down year, he still put up 24 goals during a period decreased offensive output league wide with a reasonable cap hit. There’ll definitely still be a market for him.
- Sublime55

His point totals weren’t far off from last years or the previous year when considering he was def playing injured and missed 7 games on top of that this year. There will be a market.

Well...I’d argue both those players have more value straight up then Simmonds. Gallagher is 25, on a great deal coming off a 30 goal year. I don’t think montreal would have much interest in simmer

Unless Julien is asking Bergevin to make the team tougher.

I don’t see the point in trading him this summer. He is likely to rebound and even on an expiring contract...would have more value during next year providing he rebounds. Let the young players push him down the lineup first. I don’t want to hand it to them

They've played 1 period well out of a possible 9. Even in the win they were outmatched. First 2 goals Friday were junk.

I'd have given them a shot against any other team BUT Pittsburgh.

Of the two scenarios you present, I'd rather have the latter for the simple reason that having a great goalie is never the reason you don't win it all.

Have you seen what the Bruins have done to the Leafs in the first 2 games?

Anyone else LOL when they zoomed in on Lappy during the broadcast as Pierre touted the man that’s in charge of crafting the Flyers PK. What a joke. They held up well in Game 2 and shat the bed yesterday like they’ve done the entire regular season.

Lindblom looks like a baby foal out there. I know he’s a first timer but he really has to try to put it in another gear

So, looking at each series so far:

Flyers vs Pens (my pick was Pens in 7)
Oh well, I thought the Flyers were going to make a better show, but the combo of pedestrian goaltending, a weak showing by Jake and a horrid one by Simmonds, and having to overuse Coots because of lack of depth at center is killing them. I really hope the Flyers can pull off a win on home ice in game 4, but even if they do, best case, it will be Pens in 6.

Capitals vs BlueJackets (my pick was Caps in 7)
Should of known, Caps gonna Caps. That team just finds ways to lose in the playoffs, I can't see the BJs getting anything less than a split at home. I think the Caps find a way to at least make it a little interesting, but it will be Columbus in 6.

Bruins vs Leafs (my pick was Leafs in 7)
Well, I was wrong. I thought the Bruins looked a little worn down during the last week or 2 of the regular season, guess not. I think the Leafs get a split on home ice, but the Bruins will wrap this one up in 5

Lightning vs Devils (my pick was Lightning in 5)
This one is going pretty much how I thought it would go and I'm staying with my original pick.

Predators vs Avs (my pick was Preds in 5)
Avs are making a good show and are battling hard, but they just don't have the depth to stay with Nashville. I'm staying with my original pick

Jets vs Wild (my pick was Jets in 6)
With Suter on the shelf, I felt that the Wild had little chance to win this series. That being said they pulled off an impressive win in game 3. However, I think the deeper Jets bounce back well in game 4 and go home with a 3-1 lead. They will wrap it up in 5.

Knights vs Kings (my pick was Vegas in 7)
Wow, I just did not see Vegas taking a 3-0 lead in this series, kudos to them! I think the Kings will win game 4 to stave off the humiliation of a sweep, but the Golden Knights will go back to Sin City and wrap this up in 5.

Sharks vs Ducks (my pick was Sharks in 7)
Another shocker as I did not see the Sharks sweeping in Anaheim. It will all come down to tonight's game, if the Ducks can find a way to win, this series is likely going at least 6 games, if not, the Sharks are gonna sweep. I really like what this Sharks team has done and I'm going with the sweep.

A GM's job isn't to look after the goalies (or any other players) career. That's the player's agents job.. I wouldn't consider it "wasting", if I'm making an honest effort trying to get the remaining pieces to fill around the goalie for a cup run.

If the goalie doesn't want to stay, he can ask for a trade, or not sign another contract with the team.

If the goalie decides he's going to tank or is just unhappy being where he is, and is playing like crap because of it.. then I would try to trade him.. but that's asset management, it would have nothing to do with not wanting to "waste" his career..

Exactly. Hank made it clear he wants to stay in NY. If not, they would have moved him.

I think you started it with your comment about the rangers wasting Hanks career by not winning a cup and my response that the hall of fame is not a bad consolation prize.

And your shot about not having a goalie for 40 years is totally off... but I'll let you find the reason for that being so.

We have to face it Giroux just isn't a good leader. He can't get this team fired up and playing good tough hockey.

Just look at how good Lindros, Primeau, and Richards were

He doesn’t crack our top 6 with the current roster. Unless he shifts to LW and pushes Lindblom down or Hak shifts the lines up. TK earned top line RW and proved he belonged there during the season. And Jake is just a better player. Even Patrick is taking away his PP time which was Wayne’s Best asset to this team. I just think we can collect on him know before it’s too late and further add to this team with whatever we get back. We will have plenty of cap space as well to sign short term contracts for 3rd / 4th line (if needed) and I think a long term contract would be risky with his age.
