Raffl did have an assist on Crosby's goal yesterday though.

Yeah but a team just gave up two goals in 5 seconds in a playoff game 53 years ago.
So no big deal.

Totally sucks to watch them get pummeled again, but you could see the game unfolding quickly. They played really well in the first, but couldn't bury their chances. Turnover by Raffl, misread by Elliot and that pansy ass Crosby puts it in the net. This team has been Jekyll and Hyde all season; lots of extreme highs and abysmal lows. Hopefully G, Jake, Ghost, et. al. find some of that regular season "jam" and tie this series up

Agree on all 4. Crosby 7 points.....G, Jake, Simmonds...4 points. Great to see TK and Patrick play well, but they cant be the best players for this team to win a series against Pitt
- 3flyerkids

True, though I look at how hard they had to ride their top players, especially Couturier, just to get into the playoffs, and I wonder how much they have left in the tank. Simmonds has looked like crap all year and Jake is just pissing me off, but Giroux and especially yesterday Couturier just looked like 2 guys who had leaden legs.

Hopefully the 2 days off will help them recharge, but even if both play significantly better in game 4, they are going to need better goaltending if they expect to take this series beyond 5 games.

I forget...what's the old saying? Doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results is the definition of something

Yup, I have 2 criticisms of Hak in this series and that is the first. The 2nd is not having Hagg in the lineup getting valuable playoff experience.

Raffl is nothing resembling a first line player. The fact he's on the top line is a joke.
Why don't they pluck the hot dog vendor out of the stands and put him on the top line.

I wonder about that too. It pains me to say it, but I think that may be what's occurring with the top line. In the end, they're human and only have so much energy to expend. G and Coots play a lot of minutes and difficult ones at that. The 10 game losing streak and the subpar run in late February/early March dug them a hole that required a lot to get out of.

It’s a (frank)ing routine save for an nhl goalie to get to that far post. Elliott looked like a capsizing boat trying to make it there

He had a good game against the Rags in the season finale, so Hak continues to put him there

How bout the Pens second goal, Read without a stick, and MacDonald flat on his back flopping around like a fish. They got thoroughly embarrassed on every level yesterday.

Ronald still has lots of work to do to get this team where it needs to be.

Need a reliable goalie until you hope hart is ready. Several other needs but that’s first imo.

Holtby would be ideal depending on cost. Find a way to get rid of Lehterä and maybe take on last year of Orpiks contract to entice the caps to move Holtby.

Absolutely 100% correct and I'm in full agreement with that outlook. However, what I can't accept in this series, is one, absolutely no push back in the first game after getting down. They simply weren't competitive in the game overall. That's unacceptable. In today's game, the Flyers were easily the better team early, had a breakdown and gave up a goal and then got stupid and careless! It wasn't the young players. It was the veterans and the star players. Unacceptable. Losing to a better team involves no shame if you play hard and play the right way. They haven't done that in two out of three games.

If only they had been benched when they made mistakes when they were rookies.

Yup, Coots especially has just played ridiculous minutes for a forward, especially when you factor in the time he spends on the PK. As much as finding a #1 goalie, I think finding a strong 3C that can kill penalties is just as important for this team to take the next step towards contention.

Totally reasonable to put a forward you don’t consider for your power play units on the first line. Makes sense

Any player off of the Phantoms could have looked good in that game against the Rags. The Rags played that game with less passion than you usually see in the preseason.

It's pretty crazy that year 4 of Hextall's rebuild is like 3 seasons behind Vegas year one.

Lol. Yes it is. That’s what a good GM in this league would leave you with though. Hextall is still waiting on disaster recovery to finish up

It's a flat out joke, too bad the joke is on us. At this point in the season, you go with your best and if someone's feelings are hurt, tough sh!t.

The lines for game 4 should be:

G-Coots-TK
Lindblom-Patrick-Jake
Raffl-Filppula-Weal
Read-Laughton-Simmonds

Lehtera is trying, but his lack of speed really stands out against the Pens and right now, especially at ES, the 4th line is where Simmonds belongs. If he picks it up, move Weal to LW and put Simmonds on line 3 and drop Raffl to the 4th, but Simmonds needs to earn with his play at this point.

It's not really an apples to apples, tho. Vegas was able to select some established NHL talent..Hextall has never been able to select NHL players from other teams.

Yeah, and I'm sure Hextall would have loved to start his tenure with zero bad contracts and a chance to select one unprotected player from every team as well. Hextall has made mistakes, no doubt about it, but all in all, I think he has the team moving in the right direction. I just hope he at least is considering that Hakstol may not be the coach to take this team to the next level.

I agree. LVK didn't have to worry about inheriting awful contracts. But you have to admit, it is remarkable the team they put together and the systems they've implemented. That team is a legit contender to win the Cup this year. It's nothing short of astonishing.
