Wow! Wendell Clarke retired way before I realized. - SuperSchennBros
Wendel was giving and taking more than anyone's share of abuse before pro hockey. He played defense naturally; but was moved to forward intermitently in junior before playing at the NHL level.
Over his whole career, he was a thrill to watch. Like all bright flames he died quickly. |

The Flyers had a lot of pressure early in 1st, but could not make the most of their opportunities. Then the Pens took control and made the most of their chances. Once again, the Flyers special teams failed them. Once the Pens scored the 1st goal, you could see the wind go out of the Flyers sails. Having a parade to the penalty box didn't help the cause, either.
I know that Lappy was a warrior on the ice and blocking shots ended his career and it was very nice of the Flyers to show their appreciation and sign him as their PK coach, but it's time for Lappy to go.
I'm not sure what line up Hakstol will put out on Wednesday, but Hagg must get some ice time before this series is over. Hagg was leading the league in hits until his injury. Once he got healthy he was in Hakstol's dog house and Hakstol hasn't let him out. It's too important for Hagg to miss out on some playoff experience. Watching it from the stands will not help his game. |

Come on. Lets be real. The goaltending hasn't been good. Matt Murray has been good. He stops the pucks he can see, even if they are difficult saves. If we get the same from Elliot we may have different results in this game. Elliot is an average goalie at best.
Did I expect to win this series? No. But the team as a whole is playing much better then I expected them to considering all the rookies and who they are facing. The goaltending is what is making this a more difficult situation. I can't wait till we have someone we can trust back there to make routine saves and the difficult ones they can see. |

I’m not absolving our top guns of blame but it can’t be easy knowing you’ve got to be on top of your game and potting multiple points a game for your team to have a chance.
It’s impossible. This team does not have the depth. When the bottom six players get opportunities they never finish. So while our top guns haven’t produced, I’m not worried about them because they just aren’t the problem. The problem that’s been year in and year out since the cup run has been the depth and talent level of this lineup not to mention the goalie. I refuse to blast giroux after the year he just had |

All I keep hearing is Giroux going on and on about game 2, how well they played in game 2, how they have to go back to what worked in game 2, so on and so forth..
Hate to break it to you Claude, but you guys were better in game 3. The Pens almost doubled you in shots, had much more possession and more high danger scoring chances. Murray sucked, Elliott was great, and the Pens hit 3 or 4 posts and missed a few wide open nets.
All of game 2 worked out just how period 1 of game 3 worked out for the Pens. The better team lost the period.
Hockey is a crazy game. |

Completely agree. The biggest difference in this series is the goalies.
Murray played game 2 like Elliott has played games 1 and 3.
Save us Carter Hart, you are our only hope. |

what did we say was key to the series? stay out of the box but kill when you’re in there, and shut down 87/71.
games 1 and 3 they failed in all of these areas. 2 losses. not complicated.
meanwhile our top guys aren’t playing well - not scoring, not defending, taking penalties. - hammarby31
Pretty much the tale of the tape.

Absolutely 100% correct and I'm in full agreement with that outlook. However, what I can't accept in this series, is one, absolutely no push back in the first game after getting down. They simply weren't competitive in the game overall. That's unacceptable. In today's game, the Flyers were easily the better team early, had a breakdown and gave up a goal and then got stupid and careless! It wasn't the young players. It was the veterans and the star players. Unacceptable. Losing to a better team involves no shame if you play hard and play the right way. They haven't done that in two out of three games. - MJL
Spot on. The lack of compete in Game One was staggering. The lack of any settled response at the first hint of adversity in Game Three was equally disappointing. I lobbed this question out there last night and will do so again...is there anything to make of the fact that the Pens held a full practice after Game Two and the Flyers went the optional practice route, which was then only attended by three-four regulars (all bottom six, btw)? |

Raffl will go as the players he's playing with go in a top line situation. I think Konecny has done exactly what he was asked to do on that 3rd line. The question now is do they need Konecny to go to the top line to add a spark there. Not a bad idea. - MJL
I agree on your point with Raffl. The spark needs to happen. I guess I was looking for the shift to occur when down 4-0 yesterday. Perhaps TK back on that line sparks G to the MVP year he was having. For now, it just looks like Raffl's weighing that line down. |

In this series, the top players absolutely are the problem. The playoffs is when the top guys should rise to the occasion the most. Great regular season, I think Giroux should win the Hart trophy, but he has been poor in this series through 3 games.

You can throw in Jake and Simmonds with Giroux on that point. Depth is vital, however best players have to be the best and that is simply not the case from this team.

In my opinion the depth players are playing well. The kids are playing well.
It comes down to these issues.
1) Top players not playing like top players
2) Inconsistent goaltending
3) Undisciplined penalties/Poor PK
4) Puck management. |

How is John Stevens and those Kings doing? Is he riding his horses? He's got a Hart Trophy candidate, and a Norris Trophy candidate. They must be winning big right? |

Agree on all 4. Crosby 7 points.....G, Jake, Simmonds...4 points. Great to see TK and Patrick play well, but they cant be the best players for this team to win a series against Pitt

interesting that Elliott kinda thru the blame on goal 4 on Giroux. Hakstol admitted he should have called a time out after goal 3 - nastyflyergirl
It was Giroux. Though it almost looked like he wasn't ready for the faceoff. He got worked. It was a save that needed to be made, but not a situation the Flyers should've found themselves in |

Yeah but a team just gave up two goals in 5 seconds in a playoff game 53 years ago.
So no big deal. |

I'm just praying Carter Hart is the real deal. With Provy, Ghost, Sanheim, Patrick, Konecny, Hagg and Lindblom already here, and at least some of Frost, Rubtsov, Myers, NAK, Vorobyev, Laczynski, Allison, Ratcliffe, Morin and others on their way, a real goalie is all we need to soon be a legit contender.
