I think there's examples of both models that worked. Yes of course Pitts and Chi are recent examples of tanking that created very good teams.
I'd rather see my team remain competitve and build on that but I also don't have confidence in their amateur scouting departement to find the players to do it. - Fredo

With Lefebvre FINALLY out, I can't wait until Timmins gets shown the door as well.
Then we'll discuss Bergevin's faith ... get rid of the incompetence at all levels. |

... he sure makes me use religious terms on a regular basis ... Ostie de calisse de tabarnac!
A team is more than just a freakin' goalie ... playing turtle like we have for the last 20 years is certainly not what made the Habs a success in the past.
We were all about speed and offense ... the whole league has now gone this way for Christ sakes.
Geez I'm old ... gotta kick something ... ODIE?!!! |

I find that "we need more Quebecers" mentality so annoying, and it's mostly driven by the fefans who flip out every time they see a Quebec player have success elsewhere other than in Montreal.
Also, that statement about individual player development may be just a lame excuse to cover the fact that the farm team sucks. Lefebvre got fired, and more staff changes are to come, it'll be interesting to see who they hire - Pat1993
just like the coach, do not care the slightest what language he speaks, I want the best guy available period |

Just listened to a part of Stephan Lebeau's interview with Marinaro...let's say the guy made sure he won't be rehired by the Habs |

Lefebvre apparently told him he was too focused on winning and not enough about player development. |

I'm listening to it right now ... UNBELIEVABLE!
No wonder we can't develop our young players.
Too many former defensemen in management.

Let's say it's hard to develop players when the quality guys you get from your NHL amateur scouting are so sparse |

Oh for sure, but I agree with Lebeau when he says development and winning go hand-in-hand. There's definitely an opportunity to fill the cupboards at this year's draft, let's just hope they'll make decent choices |

From 2013:
Adding some size to the system in 6-foot-5 winger Michael McCarron, Timmins and Habs GM Marc Bergevin opted to up the team’s sandpaper quotient with their 25th overall selection. An NHL power forward-in-the-making, the United States National Team Development Program standout is already drawing comparisons to another hulking winger Habs fans are all-too-familiar with.
We shouldn’t compare players, but he’s in that Milan Lucic mold,” described Timmins of the similarities between his first rounder and the Bruins bruiser. “I would also compare him to Jarred Tinordi. He’s a big man who can really skate, he has tons of character and he’ll only get better.” |

Stephan Lebeau must have read my earlier post or we are on the same cosmic wave length.
I agree with everything he said ... our management is totally clueless and the results at all levels show it.
Unbelievable that Molson still has confidence in Bergevin and his cronies.
Only way to change that is if there are a lot of empty seats next year ... enough is enough with the country club. |
