Marchand gets away with more than I've seen any other player in the Ovie/Crosby era. It's crazy. - Rinosaur
Totally agree with this fresh off a 5 game suspension and a fine Marchand crosschecks an unsuspecting player in the face after a clean hit while he is lying on his back on the ice and he gets nothing but a $1,000 fine because that was all that was allowable. Are you kidding me? He will never learn it is too bad that Kadri did what he did because he may not be able to give it to Marchand now.

Doughty has always played on the edge. He's not as frequent as others, but I'd put him on the level of someone like Kessler. Kadri is in the same spectrum IMO, but this hit was Marchand-level dirty. He should get two games. - Rinosaur
Lol wow. You’re on the east coast I don’t expect you to really know anything about Doughty. Kesler is way worse
Johansen's hit on Barrie was basically the same as Doughty's hit on Carrier, yet there's no meeting for Johansen. Love the ridiculous inconsistency coming from Player Safety.
If Wingles didn’t fall, it would have been a 2 minute charging call. To say pre meditated is crazy. Though he probably had time to hold up, Kadri was definitely already en route to the hit.
Not a great hit, but not sure a suspension. I have seen very similar hits a lot - guy falling and gets hit. The outcomes were just different.

There was no elbow to the head like Toronto fans keep whining about. Wingel's elbow was tucked the entire time. His shoulder/upper arm made contact with Marner's face... there was no elbow or intent involved. Simply a matter of circumstance of Marner's head being lowered...
I don't have a problem with a Toronto player wanting to lay a hit on Boston after that... but LAUNCHING into a prone player's head who is inches from the boards is a total scum bag move, and he should sit for a couple of games. - mixturebill
To me Wingels hit was one of those "accidentally on purpose" hits where he knew what he was doing and saw an opportunity to go after one of the Leafs' best players in a compromising position. Not head hunting but he would have been fine if his elbow caught Marner in the head and took him out cause it would still be deemed a "hockey play". Happens all the time and a veteran team like the Bruins are very good at it.
Kadri's hit was a retaliation to that and definitely deserves a suspension. Again its a similar thing where he sees Wingels in a compromising position and doesnt let up. I dont think he's targeting the head in the heat of the moment, at that pace, but was also equally fine if Wingels got hurt as a result.
Both plays were reckless, Kadri's had a much worse result.
Not you in particular, marchand’s name is coming up way too much in this conversation. - highstick87
That's because he and Malkin are the biggest cheap shot artists in the game. Marchand ended Duclair's season when he "attemped to avoid" a collision by launching into Duclair's head, and didn't even get fined. Malkin may have ended Corey Crawford's season with a knee to the head, and he didn't get fined either.

Let me guess, Leafs' fans will say the hit was fine and Kadri shouldn't be suspended. Everyone else in the universe says he should get at least a game or two...
And considering he's been suspended 3 times in his career, I'll go with the universe. - gamisou23
Your guess was pseudo cryptic. Consult Ek in the future.

Carrier himself told Doughty it was a clean hit. Doughty has also been fined once and never suspended over his 10 year career. His initial contact was shoulder and Carrier changed his position last second causing contact to the head and he’s playing tonight. It’s hard not to be the guy with the tinfoil hat on on this one but seems like an NHL pushing the VGK narrative would benefit from them going as far into the playoffs as possible. SMH
