Haha. It's like the Pens know what time it is and the Flyers alarm clock has yet to ring. A total beat down tonight.

A few days ago you were saying the offseason is a complete failure if they don't sign Carlson or trade for Karlsson. Now it's a stupid idea? Make up your mind

How do you propose they move both those contracts Mr broken record?
- GPHawksfan

You wait another season and make sure that part of the the new player/ owner contract includes 2 player buy-outs per team with no cap penalties. It will happen my friend!

You are nothing but an excuse parade for Bowman. Because the team stinks, Bowmans must not be making any decisions anymore. Ridiculous. Q and Bowman get another shot, probably deservingly so.

The bottom line is BOTH have sucked for a few years now. The good GM moves and good coaching moves only apply to when the Hawks were good. Bowman with a "great move" to get Vermette or Oduya. Q with a great move to put this line combination into place or goalie move in 2015, etc....I think BOTH were to some degree a product of a superstar core group of players....a core that is now fewer and not as good.

Both Bowman and Q have been absolute trainwrecks for a couple years now and the team isn't capable of covering for them anymore. Next year, rebound or bust, period...or both are shown the door.

- kwolf68

Scotty the one who brought Q in over Savard after 3 or 4 games .That why I can't understand he would not be pushing to have him gone with a terrible PP . IMO Scotty was helping Joel with coaching decisions up until a few years back also ..

There is no guarantee that clause will be included, actually on TSN there was talk of there not being a buy out clause this time around because there aren't many teams with unmanageable cap issues.

It's true that we don't know what the new CBA will bring. I think the current buyout situation is awful. I'd give each team one buyout per season without cap penalty. Let players and teams move on and the player still gets a bunch of cash and can play for another team and earn more.

Q will never change his stripes ,his ego is over the moon .He needs to be reign in or better yet let go .Heard today on Sports Net playoff show that Scotty Bowman said with a good PP you could win the cup every year(see pitt) . I can't believe the Bowman"s have sat and watch coach Q inept PP for years ,and not made a move .Tells me that Stan and dad are not making the big decisions in this organization anymore
- oldduffman

You can't have a good power play without a good net front presence.

Not a coincidence the PP struggled when AA was hurt

Heard he's the type of guy(s) they would love to add to the bottom six. Guys with speed, physicality but can also play.

The Flyers don't even deserve to be in the playoffs. Pathetic

NHL should drop the bull poop divisions, every team plays one another about the same amount of times and the best 16 teams make the playoffs and play each other 1 vs 16 and so on.

I really like it better when they have a playmaker with Toews/Saad. I think that is why Saad - Toews - Kane were doing well or why Schmaltz - Toews - Panik was effective.
- breadbag

Could be. But I think when Toews, Saad and Kane are together the line has a scorer/sniper (Kane) that takes the focus away from Toews and Saad. I am not sure Schmaltz would do that.

Schmaltz was effective with Panik when Panik played the role of the scorer. But I think we all felt that Panik high scoring rate was more of a fluke then a trend. Also Schmaltz was playing LW. I do not think he would be as effective on the RW. I would prefer Schmaltz as LW or C on 3rd line.

Has Q ever used that tactic in.playoff hockey?

Some other issues which are very aggravating include the use of man in front of net (Anisimov the only one), getting point shot on net and shot unleashed quickly, and employing same strategic set up and plays on the PP.

Preface the next point about this failure on PP by saying, it's not like Q and his coaches cannot understand the problem or try to fix it. It's not like they can enforce their wrath by showing players on PP their punishment when they don't comply to their coaching and practice.

So it is too easy to say: WHY do players refuse to listen and play as instructed? Could you reward those who do as told? Someone ought to respond, you think?

A coach like Gallant. Babcock, Sullivan......i bet there is no problem because player looses his job and is shamed. Not so with Q. You can only guess as to why. And then to complicate matters you have the chasm or divide between Bowman and Q which is incomprehinsible to winning hockey

They do not have enough thoroughbreds to play winning hockey. They will be done same time next season, even if they have a slightly better look and record for their effort.

Antoine Roussel is also an UFA. He may be a weiner but, he would be our weiner.

With Hartman gone, i'll acquiesce and sign him. As a fan not much choice. Can call him names under your breathe when watching the games until you finally accept him. If i were his new teamatte, he deserves to get run hard at practice. Afterwards, we can be buddies - all for one, same team. But when you play the style he does, you live and die by the sword. Not everyone may acquiesce right away. Eventually probably so, but first reaction not very nice.

Flyers are in the playoffs for 1 reason only. Same reason Pronger was able to "retire" without cap penalty.

The buyout in the last CBA was put in because the cap was scheduled to drop from a pro-rated $73MM during the short 2013 season back to $68MM the next season.

Unless there is a similar drop in the next CBA (doubtful, IMO, as the owners will have received almost $1.5Billion from the new Vegas and Seattle franchises by then - NOT shareable with the players), there probably won’t be a similar buyout provision.

NHL needs to get with the times. Like the NFL, a team can release a guy and take a minor dead cap hit and free up space. NHL is comical with the current setup.

Look how great the Hawks played once Kempny was moved?

You can't question Q. His stupidity actually can be looked at as a favor to Kempny.
