John Moore should never dress. He is (frank)ing terrible. So yes, he should be playing over garbage players like Moore and Lovejoy. Fire them into the sun for all I care.

alrighty then lol. I'd be okay with that, for the record. So our current depth chart would be... Vatanen.. ..Greene? Severson, Butcher.. M.. Moore, Mueller, Lovejoy, Santini?

it's so bad.

Vatanen, Severson, Greene, and Butcher should always play. For that last pair, I think it's up to you what you want. I've liked Mueller since coming back and he's been playing on the right side, but I'd be down with Santini giving it a go again. He had stretches of playing well. Plus he's got those #intangibles that everybody likes.

Moore-Severson is usually the pair out there hemmed in their own end. I've watched most of the games so my eyes can't be deceiving me how bad they look together. You can't blame the coaching staff for trying something different.

If it makes everyone feel better you can try on defense:

Greene Vatanen
Mueller Severson
Butcher Lovejoy

But if you want to know the likely reason Severson is sitting and not Moore is that somehow Moore is one of the leaders in blocked shots.

All this 'letter' talk got me thinking. The Devils should come out for practice in game #1 with everyone wearing the "C" on their jerseys. Then come game time, have Hall come charging out first being the only one wearing it. Nothing against Greene who has been a great Devil and great Captain, but lets be honest, this is Hall's team. Maybe the timing would be a distraction, but it could be an epic transition to the new era of the Devils.

Your C doesn't have to be warn by your best players, but by the player who induces the best from his teammates. We have no idea what happens behind closed doors, but I heard good things about Greene and Zajac and the example they set in the offseason and at training camp.

We aren't in the room with them, no, and maybe its hype because of his talent and coverage, but from the statements and comments from him about the team, and the way other players talk about him, it seems like Hall is organically becoming the leader for this squad.

Again, no discredit to Greene. Scott Stevens referred to Hall as a leader on a NHL show the other day. I think he might have an idea on what being a leader on the Devils looks like.

People naturally look at, or up to, the players that can change the game in one shift at key moments, captain material or not. Only a few have the personality and character to take that natural pull and lead other players to becoming bigger than they were, are, or thought they could be. I think that's exactly what Shero and Hynes have been trying to cultivate in Hall. But it has to be organic and I think it is, when you look at his work ethic and whats happening with players like Nico, Coleman, Zacha, Gibbons, etc. Hall has grown up a lot over this past year, and is setting the precedent of being a Devil, much like Stevens did all those years ago, but in a different way.
