This will indeed be a very different series from 2012. and the most important change may be behind the bench.
Given how the season series has gone to date, I'm not sure we should expect the same physical series we saw six years ago. If Murray can channel his casey desmith and stop more than a beachball, I like the pens chances in 5/6.
I dont see this being anything similar to the last series..times and teams change.
I think the teams are even when it comes to the forwards..Maybe the Flyers have more talent across the top 6 but the Pens have more talent on the bottom 6.
Same comparison I think on D..The Flyers have Ghost and Provorov and the Pens Letang..top pairing edge to Flyers but 3-6 edge to Pens.
Where I think the Pens have a bigger edge is in net and with the head coach.
It pains me to say this but unless Elliot can outplay Murray I think the Pens take it in 6 or 7.
I don’t care what fancy stat is thrown out there the whole team and not just maf was awful that series. Hell Crosby’s meltdown stands out in my mind as the epitomization of the series

Can someone look up Kessels numbers vs Flyers since becoming a Penguin, or hell, even his whole career vs Flyers, or both?
He's a big difference from 2012 and seems to me like he's done very well vs the Flyers since being acquired. I could be totally wrong on this. Just using my eyes and biased memory...

Their composure has come a long way since that series.
Remember in the finals vs the Sharks when Thornton almost took Crosbys head off with a cross-check from behind and Crosby didn't flinch?... That's when I knew Crosby had taken a new step in maturity.

Seems to me he does very well against the flyers too. I get scared almost every time he has an open shot, regardless of where it is from.

overreactions are the best part of pens v flyers for sure
while not the matchup any of us flyers fans wanted, if you wanna be the best gotta beat the best
and would anyine really complain if the average score per gane was 6 to 7
I'm glad they also fixed the rule for icings for cheaters like Pascal Dupuis.
May the best team (probably the Pens, honestly) win. I look forward to the poopshow this will devolve into. - jmatchett383
I always get nervous when a team I'm a fan of is too heavy of a favorite. I feel like that sets the stage for the ultimate upset.
I said this in the other thread, but this is exactly the type of series I could see the Pens coming out thinking "they got this" and sitting back.
Even though I wanted Philly over NJ or CBJ, I think the Pens mindset against NJ and CBJ would be more ready.
Not trying to be a diack, but the Flyers are basically a two-line time. That being said, those are two lines that can make you pay if you're not careful. It's a very hard series to prognosticate as far as how many games, but I wouldn't be shocked if it was a sweep and wouldn't be shocked if it went seven.
I read the Penguins expect Brass in the lineup for game 1. Anyone keeping an eye on the Lethbridge first and second round series? This kid is a tremendous find.

This one looks like Murray playing net but Jordy has a nose for the puck and hes dangerous every shift. He's only 18, he has NHL 2C written all over him at this point.

His performance at the '17 prospeks challenge was enough for me to be intrigued. He's having a fantastic year. Its amazing to think that he wasn't drafted (I remember most scouting lines had him going anywhere from 4th-6th round). Nice to have a guy with atleast the potential to play on a skill line even though he's prob a few years away.
I can't remember what his weaknesses were exactly. Size and skating? Having a redneck variation of jordan as his nickname?

The Penguins have one of the most potent PPs of all time. The Flyers are top heavy and still do NOT have a better top 6. Letang, Shultz, Maatta, and Dumoulin have all proven themselves in the playoffs, with Oleksiak looking like the first round pick he was and being the toughest guy on either team to boot the Flyers dont have the edge there either. And Murray struggled a little this year with consistency but he's a machine in the playoffs so offense, defense, goal all advantage Penguins. Maybe someday the Flyers young dmen will give them the advantage but not this year, they still have their playoff training wheels on.

He's our best prospect not in the AHL right now. I think Anthony Angello has a lot of promise too but Bellerive it seems, is always in the right place, hes got a huge hockey IQ. I would love to move Hunwick and one of our plethora of young wingers for a good, cost controlled young dman, preferably right shot. With the Hornqvist contract we might not be able to re-sign Rust or Guentzel and though that sucks it's nice to think that Sprong, Bellerive, Simon, and ZAR can all make the loss less noticeable.

Giroux and Crosby..edge to Giroux this season..
Malkin and Voracek..edge to Malkin..
Kessel and Couturier..offensive edge to Kessel defensive edge to Couturier..
The real battle is the remaining forwards and with Simmonds struggling I give that to the Pens this season..even with TK and Patrick .
Ghost had a better year than Letang and it really wasnt that close..ill take Provorov over any dman on the Pens..ill take the Pens d 3 - 6 over the Flyers..
