Draft ?
If season ended today Devils get 17th I think. Joe Veleno keeps dropping, not sure why, he's very talented. Do we pick him up if available or trade up a bit to snag him? - Leniwm1

Except no one can possibly assert it's because it's "minus Hall", because the Taylor Hall that was traded away literally doesn't exist anymore. He was transformed in this offseason from a 65 point player to a 90 point player.
In Edmonton, he's still a 65 point player and they're still tanking every season for draft picks. That was the train the team was on, and there was no getting off those tracks. - archromat
No but you can assert that its because Chia doesn't know how to trade, and the Hall trade is perhaps the worst one. |

Here's the thing, we got the better value because we got the better player. When Chia traded Hall he had just drafted Puljujarvi and still had Eberle and he filled a huge need. You end the defense of Chia once he used his cap space to give Lucic way too much money for way too long a few days later, then traded Eberle and gave Russell a ridiculous contract. He took a bad situation, plugged a hole, then compounded the problems.

Didn't know you was such a brainiac. Not bad. Surprised - yes. But not bad. |

They traded away a 1st and 2nd for a player they don't have anymore in Reinhart. They knew the first was going to be Barzal, who was a top ten pick they could get at 16 because Boston botched their draft.
The Hall for Larsson was the worst one?
Yep...
At least they still have Larsson and he's on a good contract. He's not as much of an asset as Hall is, but he's still a core asset they can use to build around. You can add top 6 AHLers to play with McDavid, assemble a decent 2nd line through free agency, acquire a new goaltender or maybe graduate somebody to help insure Talbot... Edmonton was bad this year but they're not in dire straits. |

It probably wasn't the wisest thing to defend a trade, especially given that I'm not sitting on a great reputation on this site, but I like to afford the more neutral readers a bit more perspective. The other readers are still hostile because I suggested, six years ago, that Tallinder had negative value.
Ps, I was wrong; he had "no value". He was traded away in a salary dump. |

Tallinder
I liked Volchy. At least he played with an edge. |
