He's a RFA at the end of the year. I think part of the reason he is getting limited ice/playing with McLeod is to lower the price tag on a new deal.

Isn't that a bit short-sided? Why would someone sign a long term deal with a team that would do that? Seems if someone screwed me like that to squeeze me for a bit of money I'd prefer a 2 year deal to get out of a rebuilding team as a UFA at 27.

Devils will be fine (i.e. they can't sleepwalk through a Rangers game) as long as Kinkaid doesn't take himself out of position too many times. It's incredible how many times he slides too far out of the crease leaving a yawning net (probably my only criticism of his play this year).

It's not even about Lovejoy. He's been solid as a 3rd pair guy/pk specialist for most of the season. Toss a coin between Mueller and Lovejoy to see who plays that day (and Moore should be in that category as well).

The issue is Severson is at worst the team's 2nd best defenseman. Sitting your second best defenseman in a key game is an insanely idiotic move.

While i disagree with you regarding Lovejoy being a solid 3rd pairing D, you absolutely hit the nail on the head regarding Severson. He is absolutely our #1-2 D, and needs to be in the lineup. Him and Vats sit miles ahead of our other D core. Would have been nice to see our 4th rounder spent on Ian Cole rathar than Maroon, but oh well. Curious to see who gets the big playoff games with KK closing out the reg season.
