Only new guy in lineup is Ejdsell. He has an assist already as Rockford's Samuelson scored. Two big guys on ice together, eh. Samuelson has been getting on scoresheet most each game. Want toughness and size. Hayden, Martinsen, Samuelson, Ejdsell.
- jhawk59

Well Rockford 1-0 early lead was prosperity short lived. Milwaukee turned the table, winning 5-2. Edjsell had assist on H Samuelson's tally. Actually Edjsell led with 7 sog.and Samuelson had 5 while also named the third star.

Interesting if it is true that both Q and Colliton in Rockford using two big guys on same line. Hayden with Martinsen, and Edjsell with Samuelson. FWIW.

habs won...now 3 pts behind the hawks..
with 7 games left and 2 vs the wings...this could be interesting...
the hawks dropping to 5th or 6th can happen...

7 games with playoff contenders if they some how get 4 of the remaining 14 points
the habs or wings have to get 8 pts to overtake them; i don't see the habs doing that with their schedule; the wings have a "softer" sched but they are as much of a mess as the hawks...

to me the hawks probably end up 7th or 8th...
if they start winning they could move to the 9th or 10th spot

I think Hawks couid finish 4th in the lottery draw
- before the ping pong ball selection night

Ahead of Buffalo- Arizona & Vancouver maybe 5th if Detroit also tanks/

Hawks are completely done & given the schedule I could see them losing every game to close out the 2018 season

points

When we play St Louis a side attraction is the battle royal wherein Tarasenko wants to score more goals than Panarin.

I just don't see the hawks finishing the season losing 12 strt (already on a 5 gm losing strk)...they will get 4-5 pts through 3 pt games and at least 1 or 2 regulation wins...

yet if they end up with that complete meltdown of an ending then yes it is likely the habs and/or wings will pass them...

1 win and 1 OT loss. Jets and Blues will take all 4. Hawks don't have the talent nor the compete level.

Quietly behind corporations not being able to write off suites and the product on the ice.......you will see an exodus of season ticket holders and McDonough better pray his army of t shirt jerseys can be spun into believing nothing has changed in regards to competitiveness.

Hearing reports of ticket reps not taking no "on renewals" without a fight of programmed talking points, and reasons in writing. Those actions may speak louder then any others and could lead to some changes in the organization.

- SteveRain

I'll share part of an email conversation I had with my ticket rep a few eeks ago. This exchange led to her supervisor taking over in the renewing of my tix for next yr. .....After taking care of my renewal he said we "appreciate" the feedback.

Quite frankly any time I deal with the Hawks any more it sucks.

No hard copy of tickets! Does McDunough realize some people don't have a smart phone or that they don't want his app crawling around in their phone if they do? Is he gonna pay for their printer paper and ink to print HIS ticket? That some people revere ticket stubs as keepsakes? My bud was there for Hoss'a 500th goal, no ticket stub as a keepsake! This guys walls are covered in 40 yrs of Hawk memorabilia, signed gear and stubs, but will never, ever, ever, ever have that stub of Hossa's 500th goal game to get a signature from Hossa on. What did the extra 100 k of hard copy savings get McD at the cost of pissing off untold thousands? ........ Now that the Hawks suck he, and more importantly Rocky, will find out. 100k will cost em x million in empty seats.

Can't access what funds are in my account! Have to go thru you to access that simple info??

McD has squeezed every last nickel out of the fan base and now the Hawks suck with no end in sight. The ones that are still willing to support the club have to spend an hour or more to give them 8-10-12 thousand dollars? Where did all the savings go from no hard copies and having to spend an hour to swap emails and figure out the system? Not in my ticket price! It was 27 bucks in 2010 and is EIGHTY today. Tripled!

Thanks for posting that Mr.R. We"ll never find out but I'd be interested in finding out what the renewal rate for next year is. And McD better hope that #1 pick they've got will get the Hawks a big name game breaker that the casual ticket purchaser will be attracted to.

I assume you have watched some games from that brand spanking new arena in Detroit - those premium priced empty red seats down low must have McD quivering that the same could happen to his Hawks. Nothing sells like winning.

My own work, just from reading reports about him and watching video. The youtube clips I'm linking are just to provide some evidence for certain plays. Let me know if you want to take a whack at one of these, I imagine it will get less fun after Dahlin, Zadina, Svechnikov.

Enjoy your posts especially on prospects, Orca.

Don't know your situation but every summer in Plymouth Michigan in late July early August Finland, Sweden, Canada and USA meet for 4 games each in what's called the WJC Summer Showcase to make final decisions on their WJC rosters. ..... You will see upcoming and current 1st rd picks all over the ice. If you can make the trip, 260 miles from Chicago, its the best hockey value I've come across. Here are the rosters of the 17 WJCSS: https://www.nhl.com/news/...wcase-preview/c-290490506

Watched Svechnikov as a 16 yr old for a season in the USHL and thought this kid will go #1 in a couple yrs. This kid at that time showed everything in a 6ft 3in 190lb package as a 16yr old. His skills aside he showed a high IQ, very high compete and in a Hossa fashion a dogged determination on the defensive side of the puck. Yes you see power players succeed but this kids IQ, compete and determination defensively will make him different. .... His backhander rivals some wrist shots, he's freakishly strong like Hossa and just as determined. I'd compare him to Hossa.

Then I saw Dahlin at the WJCSS. He was dinged and he was reported to maybe not play so I didn't have him circled. Sweden was playing Finland and from behind the net came #6 (IIRC) with the puck with a powerful stride showing multiple gears and head up. I thought yeeesh who is this, looked at the roster and it was Dahlin. From that first shift you could see what the hype was all about and as the game went on he confirmed it with every shift. A 17-18 yr old with 19-20 yr old NHL 1st rounders all over the ice this kid stood out in a big way. Had the look of a generational player. For all his physical talent IMO his IQ was his best asset. ...... Took over the game most every shift. Lidstrom with more power.

Hughes will be interesting. Playing as a 16 yr old for the NTDP they play 30 USHL games and the rest of the 40 games vs North Dakota, Boston U, Boston College and NCAA powerhouses and internationally. A supreme skater another who's IQ stands out. He simply quarterbacks in all 3 zones and his skating with his IQ makes him a threat in every zone but at 5ft 7-8in his size is the worry. .... Torey Krug is a comparison and as good a skater as Krug is Hughes is better IMO. He succeeded against 20+ old players as a 16-17 yr old with the NTDP so he's shown ability vs much older, mature and bigger players. As mentioned it'll be interesting to see where he goes and will only slip because of his size. Maybe a scenario where you can trade down a few spots and still grab the kid if he's your guy.

Again if you can make a WJCSS it's great value. A couple hundred people in the place crawling with scouts, agents and parents of players. Most are happy to talk hockey with even slugs like me.

Edit: Babcock and Lou Lamoriello were just standing against the rail watching the game. If it's your thing you just walk up and talk to these guys.

As much as anything Red Wings makes my skin crawl it's sad to see the empty seats in Detroilet. And yes even in a hockey rich place like Detroit people won't come to see a loser. Chicago who is not as hockey mad as a state like Michigan will be worse off IMO especially with the Cubs taking such a large share of the sports dollar.

McD did his job in spades. His job was to extract every nickel in every and all conceivable situations from any and all fans. As I mentioned to the ticket people they now have to deal with the McD residue while the Hawks transition to whatever they end up being. ....... More dysfunction between coach and GM along with the McD residue can make this very expensive going forward for Rocky.

But the buck stops with Rocky. Q and StanBowPops&McD are what they are and it's up to him to put the right people in the right spots to make this right. I have no answers to the multiple conundrums that face Rocky but that is way above my or any other fans' pay grade.

As far as renewals I was at the Boston game a couple weeks back. So many of the faces I've seen over the last 8 yrs aren't there. The few people I talked to it was maybe 50/50 split as far as renewing. Most understood this day was coming but not being able to sell unused tickets at face value was the reason for not renewing. The price is just so high as ticket prices have tripled in 8 yrs.

I'm with ya here. I HATE the no hard tickets policy. The email stuff is fine for day of game or out of town. But for regular tickets it's awful. If they don't rebound next year they are going to eat a ton of poop.

I have 8 tickets in the 100 level and was trying to go down to 4. I put my request in writing and never heard a word from the team. Finally, I called and after playing phone tag for a week I talked to my rep. They could not believe that I would want to drop any tickets. They asked for a couple of reasons on why I am dropping seats. I gave her a list of reasons from the expense, my customers do not want to go, the new tax laws and that the team sucks and is very unlikable.

I then had to resubmit my request in writing, stating the reasons I gave her again. The process was very difficult. They told me all about the waiting list, which will be zero by the end of the summer.

Amazing what age does for perspective and understanding. Now that I'm in my 50's I understand why marketers don't spend resources on older people. We know how things were thru experience and can smell bs from 100 miles away.

I can't shake the no hard copies thing. I go from 0 to 100 MPH when the subject comes up. I'm all for running lean and efficient but there are some costs that are justified and hard copies are one of them.

As mentioned I was at the Boston game a couple weeks back. On both sides of me were young couples with 2yr olds at their first Hawks game without a stub for a keepsake. I asked them if they wanted my 1 inch thingy given when I use my phone as a ticket to enter, it has the skew #, opponent and date on it. They said thanks, yes, but a fan behind us said if you got to customer service they will give you a "certificate" that says babies first game. ....... A shame. Nothing like a stub and I'm not a sentimental type.

Gonna give a kid a gift of Hawks tickets for Christmas? Print it out and put it in an envelope. Hossa scores his 500th, Hawks win a cup and you have the printout as a keepsake!

The 200 level has doubled. But the worst part, at least for the hawks now, is as I posted years ago that the marketing is being directed at the bandwagon people, and especially the big shooter suite types. And that's great short term, but the day they are not awsome all those fair weather types are see ya later. Throw in the write offs going away like Enzo said and then they are left with the hard core guys and dolls that have mostly been taken for granted for the last decade. And as you say those people rely on selling some tickets to make it affordable. Without the ability to sell it's lookout below. They made their bed as the saying goes. In the future they are going to have to do different lesser ticket packages like minor league teams do. It's going to be interesting to see how they view the decision to put all the games on tv a decade later when the building is half full.

You are a 100 level guy and I'm a 300 level guy. I have to play phone tag EVERY time I call these people but as a 100 level guy you should never have to.

I'm easy on my rep as I tell her I understand you are doing the work of 5 people, the American way, but the business model of playing phone tag with a customer spending 80k minimum for 8 100 level tickets problematic at best and says much to me. ....... It's what I simply call the McD residue and Rocky is gonna pay in a big way for this way of doing things until the Hawks are a top 5 team with playoff success.

There's only one team in that position anymore.
- BINGO!

Cap Floor is not as important as Cap Ceiling. If teams are going to be well under the Cap Ceiling they can pick up Hossa's $5.275 cap hit for 3 years and only pay out $1 mil per year for 3 years. Maybe they get two 3rd round picks in consecutive drafts. If the Cap ceiling goes up to $80 mil and Ottawa, or a small market, low revenue team like Carolina, Arizona, Columbus, decides that they are not going to spend more than $74.725 mil they may want to pick up two 3rd round draft picks for a total of $3mil cash outlay.

200 level is my favorite and I was seriously thinking of going that route until they told me there was a $1,000 fee on each ticket for wait service and that was 2008! A thousand bucks jammed down my throat for each ticket to have a waiter bring me the 8 dollar pop I get at each game!

$1,000 bucks per ticket in 2008 for access to the Harris Bank Bar to sit between periods with VIP's.

As mentioned McD extracted every single nickel out of every single fan at every single turn while tripling my price as he took things away.... The McD residue is as you mention making your bed now sleep in it.

This is a good analysis. With several years of escalating salaries and a slow rising Cap, the Cap floor is hardly relevant in today's NHL.

Somewhere in my treasures are some tickets and scorecards from some Cubs games I went to with my father in the 50s. I have no idea where - I know I saved them, don’t think they were thrown out, but I have no idea where.

I have fond memories of this being a 4-newspaper city - I’m guessing in 5 years we won’t have any general-interest newspapers. Sports Illustrated and Newsweek and Life coming to the house every week, going to Sears for a new appliance, or Marshall Fields...or any retail store (and how many of those will be around in 5 years).

Times change - it’s not just the cost of the stub tickets - it’s also the efficiency of not having to have some place print them and mail them and account for them at the gate and...much easier to upload them and scan the smart phone. Want a souvenir? Take a selfie with the kid your iPhone.

We alte-cockers May not like it, but our world is fast changing (and, in certain situations, disappearing).
