Lets Go Flyers!!!

This time of year is sort of the deep breath before you take before diving out the plane.

As much fun as you can have being a hockey fan..until the playoffs start.

They've come up small recently in these big divisional games. Want to see how they respond today. Hope they've righted the ship and we can keep a top 3 spot.

Just hoping for at least one point today.

A little annoyed. I don't track schedules for other teams so maybe they have the same oddities and quirks, but it never ceases to amaze me how the Flyers consistently have schedules that seem to be needlessly complicated.

For example: The Sixers were off Saturday. The Flyers were in Carolina, but now will play today in Philadelphia, less than 22 hours later.

Was there something going on at the WFC that prompted both teams to not be able to get in there that was worth the competitive disadvantage the Flyers will face today?

EDIT: Never mind. Blake Shelton concert

Today is a good test, especially because the fatigue factor slightly works against them -- both teams are playing for the 3rd time in less than four nights but the Flyers played last night in Raleigh with a 22-hour turnaround, whereas the Caps were already in Philly.

Big picture: Because the Flyers lost at least 3 points within their grasp in the Tampa, Boston and Vegas games, it's basically a pick your poison scenario where the Flyers' are going to end up playing the 2nd place team in the Metro, the 1st place team in the Metro or the Atlantic Division winner (in other words, one among the Penguins, Capitals, Lightning or Bruins) in the first round of the playoffs.

Ultimately, it is going to come down to whether the Flyers take care of their own business or not. But they aren't the only team with a tough road still ahead.

Florida's almost comically long stretch of virtually zero travel -- a single 37-minute flight to Tampa was it -- between Feb. 21 until now with only one b2b the entire time -- is now over. While not all of their upcoming opponents have good records, the logistics will now switch from overwhelmingly stacked in their favor to being very grueling the rest of the month.

The Panthers now travel today from Florida to Quebec. They are in Montreal on Monday, in Ottawa on Tuesday. Then a road game in Columbus on Thursday for the final game of a 3-in-4 set. Next week, after a one-game return home on Saturday to play Arizona, the Panthers will have yet another trip to Canada as part of a four-in-six road swing: at NYI on Monday, at Toronto on Wed, at Ottawa (again) on Thurs, then at Boston on Saturday.

People keep talking about all the games in hand the Panthers have. Yes, they do. But for sheer energy management through lots of games and travel between games, this is going to be a very tough stretch.

The Devils are 3-0-0 to start their own brutally tough seven game stretch but they danced between the raindrops for large portions of the Preds and LA games. Today, they're in the back end of a b2b and going in to play an Anaheim team that is much better at home than on the road. After that, they've still got road games looming in San Jose then Pittsburgh before a home game against Tampa. Getting through the stretch with nine points would still a strong accomplishment even with six points already in the bag.

Grubauer better start or Trotz has lost his mind. Caps are elite team when Backstrom and Kuznetsov are rolling, without him today i expect a dog performance.

Team really needs to start getting more of their shots on net. Shooting wide has almost become an epidemic on this club.

Maybe take some power off your shots and focus getting it on goal. Worst case scenario the goalie covers it up and you get a faceoff in their zone being one of the best faceoff teams on the league. So many unforced turnovers by guys who can't aim for poop.

Lindblom's apple was a very very slick pass. Watching it in slo-mo the kid has his head up the whole way. Quiick zip wrist pass to Jake was bang bang. Great hockey head on this kid!

I believe there is someone on this page that feels hitting the net doesn't really matter...

Sanheim's apple was also a credit to his time down in A.
When he made the quick move to float back to center ice he ripped that wrister very quickly.
Earlier in the year he would have waited too long and had shot blocked or had the puck stolen.

That was a nice play there but overall last night, Sanheim had a poor game overall. I thought his first two game were solid so we'll see how he does today. We'll see what the Flyers do when Haag or Oduya are ready to play. They'll have to make a roster move then.

If we need toughness after moving Simmonds I see Klotz, Rosey and Vandemeer are still beating people up in the EIHL.

He needs to play to get better....I thought he was good again last night. Just before his assist ha had that chance where he jumped into the play but took to long to get shot off and he’d it deflected out of play. I f I thought there was a drop off between him and a couple other d then I’d suggest sending him down....but there simply isn’t. We will see if he gets in today, Hagg took the pregame so he’s obviously ready, but I think these are all great for his development going forward.

With it being a home game today, why the early start? Kinda stupid, since we had to play last night. Don’t Flyers control that ?

What a nice way to make a living....both Klotz and Mcgratton have a history of getting totally k o ‘d and this is something they still do...(frank). I thought both those guys were retired. A lot of guys go over there to play I guess.

It's definitely a pick your poison situation. To me, although I always want them to go all the way, the realistic expectation is to get in the playoffs and play well. Let the chip fall where they may. I think the window for this team may open in 2 years and playoff experience is invaluable imho. I want the yougins to experience it this year as it'll speed up the process of becoming a contender.

How do you see Sanheim in relation to the other D?

I see a player who does make mistakes but also breaks out of the D zone and makes plays in the O zone.

When i think about Gudas , Manning or anyone not named Provy or Ghost I think Sanheim stacks up well. The other D get hemmed in plenty, make plenty of TO's but dont have the break out or O upside.

I do like AMAC's game for what it is.

I'll be the broken record but I like sanheim with amac. I don't like gudas with manning. It's been bleeding us dry. I try hagg gudas and see if that can help gudas get his game back. Bringing hagg back and putting him back with amac still leaves us with a struggling third pairing
