Gosh if Keith has hand-eye coordination problems what does Toews have? Toews can’t pass to a teammate completely open 5 feet away. Toews also seems zoned - been attributing it to his diet - hope that is what it is. Apparently it was Keith who turned Toews on to Onnit.

Granato I can see but, Eddie? I like him as a color guy but he coached the Pens for parts of 2 seasons and that didn't go well. Zero GM experience. He may be better off staying in the booth.

It was Keith. Oduya and Ladd also converted (what has happened to their production)? I don't know what's in those supplements or whether the guys are subscribing to some of the other more out-there philosophies, but does seem a bit coincidental that their respective play seemed to drop off in the year or so following when they joined.

ETA: There is a bit of a chicken-and-egg thing here. Did they go looking for a solution when they felt their bodies/minds breaking down? Or, did the solution they found cause some of the breakdown?

At some point in the future Snuggerud will reach a level of acceptable performans in the art of playing defense. Then he would be elgible in Bowman's way of thinking for an nhl call up, ostensibly Snuggerud would be tha latest to show whether he can play at the nhl levrl as a third pair .
So to follow i am thinking of the liklehood how others might fit on the third pair

I believe Gustafsson is not the answer. He may be an AHL all star but like many whom would hope to stick as a third pair, he has a couple nice skill in his skillset but, overall, is not the trusted third pair guy you want to keep.

Thr Rockford coach, Colliton, has said Dalhstrom thinks the game and makes good plays. Can he do this also at the NHL level? Hard to say, but of course young guys- rookies in some examples - arr not likely to fare well on a loosing atmosphere with mismanaged coaching and a defense partner whom is sort of shaky at times.

That third pair guy os probably going to be Murphy. He is a fit here not just fir the muscle he.offers, but due in part to his skating is not quite up to par to ne playing on another pair. So maybe Murphy because of his muscle will sort of morph into that third pair

I suggest that Forsling, Jokiharju have a shot one day of becoming better than third pair. Mitchell and Carlson might sound promising to evolve into nhl fmen, but thry must be left alone to develop......i loke to ser them at Rockford to begin their Blackhawk journey.

Kyrs may be the bedt of all the offensive skill guys ......he is that hood....but has his own isdues defensively. Rrsd: Rockford tp start

Gilbert, Raydysh, even Norrell are? Bluechip? Hillman and Tuollola we need to see how they translate to the North American home

When I'm not being sarcastic I am usually very positive.

However, I am seriously worried about the state of the defense next year. Keith is a keeper and true top pairing dman. Beyond that the defense is a tire fire. Seabrook will likely be back because of his contract. He'll be an expensive 3rd pairing dman but we have to live with that.

Oesterle, Dahlstrom, Rutta and Gustafsson are just not good enough for a team that wants to content. I wouldn't be surprised to see 1-2 of these guys return, but if they do hopefully they have lesser roles. I would like to see them all replaced.

Murphy hasn't worked out. I think he can be better but Chicago for whatever reason (likely Q) isn't the right fit.

I've been a big fan of Forsling but for two years in a row he's faded as the season progressed. He's still young and dmen take longer to develop, I would likely keep him around.

Likely the Hawks will have some cap space to work with this off season. I'd like to see them unload Hossa's contract too.

Not Eddie O - his TV analysis does not inspire me that he would make a good GM. He misses or ignores key moments in games and attributes blame to the wrong players. Last night on the first Sharks goal it was true that Gus could not have played the odd-man break any more poorly. Eddie O certainly belaboured this point. However. the entire play was caused by Dahlstrom pinching for no reason and getting caught deep in the Sharks end and this fact was ignored. This does not indicate great player analysis. This is just one of many examples.

I agree 100%. If this team is gonna go anywhere we need to find a way to improve our Defense. Only guy we can count on is Keith at this point. Who knows if Seabrook will find the fountain of youth or continue to fall into the abyss. Murphy could be a solid Top 6 D-Man but he needs to consistently play and develop chemistry (with whoever he plays with) to be more effective. Forsling has shown plenty of flashes that he could be a legit Top 6 D-Man as well, but he's still young and makes his mistakes.

The rest are all guys who are likely AHL/7th D-Men but who MIGHT have a chance to be a decent enough 3rd Pairing guy. Either we need to acquire, sign, or pray someone emerges on D otherwise I think we're gonna see more of the same next year, though with (hopefully) a more consistent offensive attack with the young players having more experience and (hopefully) a health Crow in net.

Lotta hopes and prayers that this team can turn it around. Let's just hope in the meantime we continue to see the kids play well, but we lose games to get in the best draft position as possible

The possibility of being pushed back in the draft makes it imperative that we finish as low as possible in the standings at the end of the year.
Our current position and lousy play coupled with Buffalo and Arizona posting winning records in their last 10 makes last place quite possible.

- 67hawks

But percentage attached to new draft slotting for the system with how the ping pong ball lands, makes the daft order quite intriguing. Reread that I know it is poor grammar construction just to get idea across that the draft has evolved into a real process where fairness to land top picks in a lottery is balanced as fairly to each teams

Tonight's Tank Watch:

Buffalo and Montreal -possible points available here and both teams playing decently lately

Wings, Rangers, Canucks, and Ottawa -would require upsets, but out of 4 could gain a point or 2

Any players connected to Onnit should be running away as fast as possible. If the idea is Onnit should enhance or increase performance the opposite seems true. Toews could do a commercial - “Get Onnit if you want to be slower, exhausted and foggy thinking with a complete loss of hand-eye coordination.”

Holy Christ! Did you hit the nail right on the head!!!, Those two names actually came up when talking to bunch of other season ticket holder’s that are in our group. I guess it’s called great minds think a like. Let’s hope Rocky and John, if there’s going to be change our thinking the same.

The question is, given Eddies health issues and his great job he has now, do you think he wants those headaches?

I think StanBo goes nowhere. I don’t believe that management ever felt like this was a year they could compete for the cup, that’s why they trade hammer and panarin for guys that could be here 4 years down the line. I think that this was a year to grow some young guys and restructure the team a bit.

Powers just wrote a very interesting article on the Athletic, and brings up a point that nobody on this board has mentioned all year. If the Blackhawks find a way to use Hossa cap space via trade or IR, plus a few million in bonuses coming off the books, plus a rise in cap and not needing to sign any high cost free agents (which is part of the reason Hartman was moved), the Blackhawks could be looking at $16M in cap space next offseason! Wow, that’s a luxury that us blackhawks fans haven’t seen since signing Hossa 10 years ago.

That gives management some serious wiggle room to improve this roster via free agency this offseason and beyond. Think about what a couple of $5m dollar players could do to this roster, a top 4d and top 6 forward could go a long way. Is it crazy to think maybe the Blackhawks can make a run at Tavares? Could 3 $10m dollar players exist on the same roster? It sounds crazy but isn’t that different from the Penguins cap structure.

Anyways, this year has sucked but with a nice opportunity to grab a serious player at the draft next year and for the first time in a long time having some cap space to work with, maybe things aren’t all that bleak for these Blackhawks. They will still need some bounce back years from toews and kieth, but I don’t think another couple of runs for this group is totally out of the question if they can seriously improve their NHL talent via free agency.

My 2 cents
Let Q go, bring in a younger , forward thinking, teacher coach , that doesn't put players in doghouses to fast ,

Think D all the way in draft

If you have to package Hossa with pick/pl;ayer might be a good idea to do it

With this lineup maybe in their own way they are tanking , maybe we get up to top 5 pick and grab that Michigan D Hughes?

It would be great to have that cap room for either next season or season after instead of scrambling every year with cap problems.

Smallish D and ranked #16 by Sportsnet.
Why we do that in the top 5? Maybe with our 2nd pick in the first round if he is still there.

Sounds like a Stan Bowman pick for his NCHL (No Contact Hockey League) team. The subtractions of Hartman, Wingels, Bouma and Hayden have truly made the Hawks the easiest team to play against in the NHL in terms of talent + toughness combined. AZ and Buffalo may be less talented, but they at least have some guys willing to hit and fight. That lineup last night was charmin soft AND not good lol

Quinton Hughes is listed as 5'9" 170. Talent aside, this board would explode if the Hawks drafted a smurf sized d-man who is committed to a college program. We may not see the kid for 4 years and then he could tell the Hawks to go pound sand and go to free agency.

I have to think they go for the biggest, most NHL ready, bad-a$$ available on the board when it's their pick.

Can someone please offer some clarity on this issue. Do we NEED to trade Hossa's contract? I thought that after he was put on LTIR this season we do not need to wait for the season to start to put him on LTIR in subsequent season's. For the life of me I cannot keep this one straight.

Do the Hawks need to? Technically no. But they'll never get 100% full use of the cap space as long as they have the contract on their books. There are different strategies the team can use for putting Hossa on LTIR, but they all have their downside.

If the Hawks want to take a serious run within the next 3 years I think they need to trade Hossa's contract.
