IMO something very similar to this would have been entirely possible this season and moving forward had our front office made smarter decisions. And also, IMO, that's a Cup worthy roster right there.

I'm not going to bother looking up the current contracts of Leddy, Teravainen, Danault and Johns, but I'm guessing that you're way over the cap with that roster.

Serious question, would the Hawks like be interested in trading Duncan Keith at his age and contract length for picks and prospects?
- Larsson_fan

I think they should consider it seriously. Not sure about that for the return - will leave that to the amateur GMs on here - but really depends on whether his game is ever going to pick up again while in Chicago. With him, I don't get the sense whatever is going on with him is physical. And, i thought it started last year.

Not taking away from what he gave this team or what he's capable of. We still see flashes of the dominant defenseman he used to be when he decides it's time to turn it on. Unfortunately, that is often coming too late in the game, now.

What used to be a winning and positive chemistry in the room
has rapidly degraded into a seemingly toxic and negative energy. There is no passion, no cohesion, and no accountability. That lies squarely on the shoulders of Q, 19, 7, 2, 88, and even 10.

Ryan Hartman on his biggest takeaway from his new team: This group doesn’t give up. The belief in this room is unbelievable. #Preds

Now, which team did we always hear that about in the past?

I know he's just a bottom 6 center, but he can actually skate 100 feet without gliding, unlike our $10.5M captain. That trade looks even worse now that I see the $. Fire Bowman!

I would have benched Duclair after that. Terrible and lazy effort.

Q seems to have lost his desire to punish guys lately. Just seems to be rolling lines and gping through the motions.

maybe that comes from Stan and the FO - play the kids, etc.

The blueline crew would not hold up. Leddy is not that good; his value is as a # 2 or #3 pair. Why has not NYI ever gone far despite all those former #1 's on defense plus a descent group up front. Because not only has Tavaras lacked a star wing, but their drfensr (including Leddy) is good but nowhere near very good. This last sentence sort of is a summation of Leddy as well.

Wasn't Saad moved due to cap pressure with his new contract? I think you have to look at the circumstances around the player movement & the Hawks cap at that time. Any team could look at players lost & say they fit the cap now, but could never achieved that at the time. A bit like saying player C should have been drafted instead of player A. I think the Danault trade was inexcusable at the time as there was no pressure to move him or his contract & the return was disputably bad. Also Teravinen got you cap relief & was necassary. Now why it was required might be another reason the GM should have been relieved of his position, which may be the 'smarter decisions' you refer to. But go back to those decisions & see what could have changed - Danault for sure, but again the high end contracts of about 5-6 players need to be looked at around that time & before. Be interesting to see what you would have done.

So it's nice to look at what might have been, but at the same time, it couldn't have been. But yes, quality team if you had it. Also, the money spent & the performance for that money is also questionable & Again should be questioned & someone held accountable. In saying that, how much $ has the organisation made from merchandising with those players? So maybe not a complete loss & may even serve as a profit for the organisation.

The Toews-Kessler fight just seemed peculiar, avoidable, non-impactful. Both have helmets and face shields. Risk breaking up hands. Toews shouldn’t fight as he is simply not strong enough. He looked small, skinny and weak during the fight and especially so when he was shown in the Penalty Box. Kessler may be an A-List A-Hole but he is still built solid - Toews doesn’t look solid.

Also Kessler sucks. Don’t fight him - beat him down the ice and score. I suspected the fight wouldn’t have an effect on the team and it didn’t. In fairness what effect should it have? Toews fought a guy with all of 8 points hardly the most feared player. Kessler played Toews getting him to fight. Toews admitted he was goaded post-game. Toews has been odd all year - he has been whiny in interviews. He really hasn’t shown any leadership on or off the ice - if the C wasn’t on his jersey you’d never guess he was the Captain.

Can’t believe there isn’t questions about Toews. Of course there are questions when he is paid 10.5M and doesn’t produce - from management and from within the locker-room.

- Z3Hawk

Shut up. You criticize a guy for standing up for himself? This team needs more push back, especially behind scenes. It's about time he acts like a Captain. No one wants a fighter then complain when one of the skill guys fights. Its maddening.
