Why the hell is Stan (allegedly) shopping Hartman?
- BINGO!

The Hawks don't have a whole lot of value to offer other teams right now with long term contracts and movement clauses handcuffing them.

Right, no bargaining chip, teams no hawks have to move some guys all the time. No reason to offer them more than necessary, or overpay for that matter

Well the reported ask of a 1st and a prospect is way too high anyway.
- BINGO!

So what's the point? If Stan is trying to get max value for Hartman that's a good GM move. If no one will pay it, move on.

So if there was interest in Hartman wouldnt it have made sense to keep him in the lineup?

@mitchdudek

Coach Q at the DD just east of United Center this morning, telling everyone after they order “That’s on the Blackhawks.”

This feels like a "my how the mighty have fallen" moment to me - reminds me of Sharpy and Keith talking about going to Union Station to giveaway tickets in the dark days pre 2009.

Today @ 10:27 AM ET
Should have been there at the open, when Q told the store GM that he was not going to dress the grill guy, drive thru gal and the maintenance guy. Said they were not buying into his system and he had to send a strong message.

That is 2 of the last 3 employees of the month. Word has it Rosival and Handzuis were on their way in to fill in.

If Stan cant get anything done in a sellers market .He should be fired!!!! If Q goes I have serious reservations of the path of this team moving forward

What if we could offer both Hartman and something at the draft as sweetener to exchange first round picks. One possibility of Hartman "+" could be J Johnson. The other team drafts a player they like in round one, then can flip Johnson alone for a later pick or in a two for one deal.

Btw if Dineen is a friend of Q, then why did Dinern talk to McDonough. You don't suppose he wants to put in an appearance at Panera if Q is at DD! LOL

Exactly my thoughts.
I do not understand the insistence to do something -even if it is a move that negatively impacts us. Hartman is a cheap roster option for us. He will be re-signed for cheap because he has little bargaining power. With our cap situation this should be a no brainer.

That's exactly it... I don't get it. Usually stuff like this doesn't wind up in the media because the team doesn't really want to trade him away in the first place.

Dunno. It's weird.

It is interesting to get perspective from other teams' fans regarding Hartman. I visited other blog sites last night. Fans from other teams also could not believe that he was supposedly available and I could not believe what they were willing to offer for him.
Fans typically overvalue their players. A lot of Hawks fans do not fit this mold.

Another not-so-subtle message being sent to Hartman?

Another thought is that it's just a bunch of blogger hot air and there is no truth to it, but here we all area chatting away about it.

Hawks fans are a lot like a lot of football fans. Everyone's favourite player is the back-up QB.

The time had come for at least one of the dmen and Franson to move on. Perhaps Oesterle sticks around and Gustafsson finally goes somewhere beside back to Rockford. How much more can Gustafsson work on at Rockford?

Likely too high, but he could play an more important role on the Hawks than other teams. I'd trade Hartman for a defenseman of his equivalent level, but if he'd going to be dealt for picks then Stan should shoot for the moon.

What does Stan have to trade that's of any value? All the pending free-agents (UFAs) aren't that great and anyone they might want to trade (AA) aren't typical TDL moves. I'd expect a very quiet TDL, maybe Wingels is the only one to go. The draft could be a lot busier though.

You are 100% correct. We win three cups in seven years and everyone wants to fire Q, fire Bowman, trade Toews...etc..

It gets tiring. My guess is a lot of young guys in here (Millennials) thinking its the Hawks world and the other 30 NHL teams just live in it. Some fanbases would literally die for one Cup...yet alone three.

I've said it a couple times and I believe someone on here echoed it on the thread, the Blackhawks picked a terrible year to be sellers.

I think Stan should be able to get a couple things done, but I wouldn't hold your breath that it's a huge one.

The Hawks really don't have a ton of options in terms of guys (with a ton of value) to warrant a strong return. That's why I think you see guys like Hartman popping up in the rumour mill.

We'll see, but my expecations are: Franson, Wingels, Rutta/Gustafsson for picks/prospects.

I'd be happy with that. I could see Stan making some moves to help improve Rockford's chances of making the playoffs.

The only players with significant term remaining that have moved that I can recall are Gaborik for Phaneuf in an exchange of bad contracts, with Ottawa retaining salary. The Hawks are obviously in no position to retain salary on anybody. I'd be really surprised if Stan deals anybody but the pending UFAs today.

Yep - I've mentioned it a couple times that they are focused on Rockford making the playoffs (currently 5th in Central but it's a tight race) more than they have in the past.
