@JonathanToews on Hartman (1 of 2):
"He's so physical, he scores goals … he can do a little bit of everything. That's the only thing I can really comment on is how much he'll be missed, and what type of player and a guy he is. ...
(2 of 2):
"Other than that, I don't really understand or see the whole picture right now. Obviously that will take shape as we go along. I'm sure management knows what it's doing." - JRoenick97

As others have pointed out, the SHL is what used to be the SEL. https://en.wikipedia.org/...iki/Swedish_Hockey_League
I'm not expecting anything from Ejdsell, regardless. Sometimes a team can extract value from a throw in, and usually they don't.
Regardless, I'm fine with the deal, if there really were the problems already suggested on here.
Hartman was a late 1st rounder himself. Is his value greater than the average expected value for a late 1st rounder? I would guess no at this point. I look at this as a do over pick.
What would the Hawks have gotten for him this offseason, given he's an RFA? Not sure they do better than this if everyone wanted to part ways. |

Hartman trade: I always picture myself as a GM (as I am sure is true across this board). I'm giggling trying to figure out how a piece like this 4th for 5th rounders gets into a deal like this. Given where the Preds and Hawks sit in the standings, I think those picks will be within about 10 picks of one another. That seems a miniscule consideration.
Sort of like me sitting in the car dealership negotiating a $10,000 purchase, and pulling some of the loose change out of my pocket to close the deal at $10,000.82 - Cmonalready
This is actually a great point.
Switching a late 4th for an early 5th (especially at this point) makes zero sense. |

He draws far more penalties than he takes. In fact, he’s near the top of the league in drawing penalties. - Ogilthorpe2
I was once a Hartman fan but his penalties were getting dumber and more poorly timed as time went on.

They parted ways with the wrong half of the equation.

I looked and looked for his stats on faceoffs, found none, but I did see scouting reports stating he was strong on the faceoff circle.
Here is a write up that talks about him that I found interesting

Probably they would have gotten less for him after the deadline.
Thinking about this more, if there are issues with him maybe moving him is a message to the players about buying into coach Q's system. I'm not saying anything absolute, but "if" Hartman was tuning out the coach it does set a tone. Maybe Hartman wanted out and Stan was also just giving him a new start.

We have Columbus's 5th as well. Might have been the one used in the swap?
EDIT: Nevermind...

It could be that both parts of the equation need to go. I have wondered if Q and the Hawks were ready to part ways for awhile myself, but I'm not close enough to the inner workings to really know for sure.

despite this boards angst and demands for Q and stanbows heads; i fully expected them to return...this seals it; however a bad finish by the hawks (ie another losing streak of 5-6 games) may unseal Q fate - bogiedoc
I have no faith in Q ,he has been mailing it in all year .. We need a coach that works with the players he is given ,not have hissy fit and storm out of the draft .. |

How soon everyone forgets Big John Hayden.
This guy actually does everything that people wanted (or think they saw) Hartman to do. |

Funny how Shaw was a Q favorite, Hartman wasn't
But many here viewed Shaw and Hartman as comparable players |

I disagree.
This team wants to lose games now. A 5-6 game losing streak results in a much better draft position. Furthermore, I expect the Hawks to start bringing kids up from the AHL to see what the organization has for next season. |

Like him better than Hartman anyway and have been on his band wagon for a couple years now. Hated he got sent down...seemed our team got way softer, less net presence when that happened. |

Based on the players reactions (and I'm comparing to their reactions to others leaving in the past), seems this was not a locker room issue with Hartman. Looks to have been between the coach(es) and him. |

Best response from over on the main board (where is power enforcer?)
This is Bettman requiring a first to make the Blackhawks competitive again ASAP.

well, they do have that Winter Classic with two losing teams coming up in Jan 2019 |

How does his 2 year ELC work since he played in the SHL this year? is it still 2 years or is it now 1 year?

Such is life, you know?
No different than us average Joes. Sometimes you have a boss you don't get a long with.
Either they leave, you leave or you figure out a way to make it work and survive.
It happens. |
