TRADE ALERT: Hartman plus Hawks' 5th Rd pick in 2018 to Nashville for 1st RD pick in 2018 plus Victor Edjsell plus 4th Rd pick in 2018

JL Thoughts: really impressed Stan was able to get a 1st rounder out of him. There were rumours that Hartman was "difficult" at times and was falling out of favour with Coach Quenneville.

Victor Edjsell could be a sneaky good pick up by Stan as well.

As per Dobberhockey - here is the breakdown on the hulking Swede forward = https://dobberprospects.com/victor-ejdsell/

- Justin Lowe

I understand that the video is a highlight reel but as highlight reels go it is a good one. Ejdsell seems to have size, really good hands and offensive skill - also seems comfortable playing Centre and RW ( shoots left). Bet Hawks have been scouting him hard lately. Predators obviously have high view of themselves - hope they fall on their faces with early exit.

Exactly right. Remove the one guy who can hit and actually play hockey. And this trade, while a good one for the Hawks, does nothing to address the defense. I'm looking forward to Hartman taking runs at his old buddies 5 times a year.

Enzo--I have to disagree with you here (and we're usually on the same page, haha).

I think Hartman was stuck between being a physical grinder, a skill guy or both. He seemed out-of-place these past two seasons. He certainly hasn't been the guy he was back when they moved Shaw and he stepped up.

I'm good with this move. I think another (or multiples) might be coming to address the blueline, too.

Was just thinking this. If 38 was in Q's doghouse and Bowman worked to get rid of him, maybe they will both be back.

I hope Stan isn't done.

Hartman's departure might have run deeper than Quenneville's displeasure with him.

in the SHL he is tied for 8th in goals. from the Video looks to have good hands for a tall guy. from the prospect camp it sounded like his skating was Clumsy.

Because the Hawks gained more cap space in this deal (just under $5M now) does this mean a cap dump deal is forthcoming our way for maybe yet another draft pick?

If Q wasn't really going to play him and he wanted out then bowman had no choice but to trade hartman but the haul was nice inside your division horrible and not trading hartman for young d man with top 4 potential which what the hawks really need sanhiem for example bad trade and long do the hawks have to wait for this swed. Another mistake by bowman

I liked Kempny and Hartman, but the return was fair.

Stan should have got Bollig in the Hartman deal, that was a major fail.

Brining Fisher back is so silly. Someone is trying to write a Hollywood ending for the Preds and I hope the script is terrible once the playoffs start

Got to move AA’s contract now. Whatever his value is today I don’t see it getting better after the season is over.

We all see it the NHL. Teams are direct reflections of the HC in terms of on ice play. Hitchcock teams are bastards and tough to play against. So at this stage we say that Q prolly has the mindset of we dont hit and scrap. As much as I hate the Preds, they are the perfect mix of skill and nasty/edge.

We need to get there. The Preds and the Blues the year prior imposed their will and it appeared the Hawks wilted. We did okay against the Blues, but against the Preds we just looked done. Does Q see that he needs that change? Im not saying run around like idiots trying to hit someone, but we see it all the time where a Hawks player has someone lined up and pulls up.

Q had bruising teams in St. Louis and later with the Avs. Not so much here. With the decline in overall skill with 19, 2 and 7 we need to change things up a bit to help out.

Crow to IR maybe. See if they can take a big expiring cap contract and get some good assets.

Stan in 2017, "Nashville was tougher and hungrier than us."

Stan in 2018 gives Nashville our toughest Top 9 forward

LOL

You have to give to get.
For whatever reasons it was not working out for Hartman Chicago.
Does he have a attitude problem or entitlement issues? Who knows? Maybe.
Bottom line we got a good haul for a player who had not delivered as expected.
Yes he may have an upside but he has yet to prove that on any consistent level.
And if yes he has character issues or is hard to manage then yes it was a good trade. The result of the trade will be determined on how well we draft and what the team needs to be succesful again. I would say we need more grit especially with Hartman gone but Im sure that can be found .... lets remember it's not like we traded P. Kane. ....overall I think a good trade for the Hawks.

From reading up on tis guy, skating is main negative that came up, How effective will he be in today's faster NHL?

Teams who are making a run and want Hartman for that won't return a top 4 D talent.

Toughness along the boards: I didn’t see Hartman as a particularly good strummer getting the puck.

Toughness at the net: I didn’t see Hartman as particularly adept at getting to the net or getting into good position there.

I didn’t see Hartman as much more than “just a guy” - you said previously “almost 20 goals last year” - well almost 10 this year.

Maybe he turns into a 25-50 skater that I’ll be sorry is gone.

But for now - I would have been fine if he stayed - I’m fine that he’s gone for the potential that is coming back.

How is it that a punk 2nd year pro thinks he knows more about the game than the HOF, 2nd winningest coach in NHL history.

If I was a draftee of the Blackhawks, I’d listen closely and do exactly what Coach Q told me to do. Like not high sticking guys behind the play while my team has a 2 on 1.

I hate to see Hartman go but Stan got a really solid return. Plus I don't think you can fully judge this trade in isolation.
- DarthKane

Part of me thinks this trade comes down to "Ryan Hartman the Winger" vs " Ryan Hartman the Center."

As a winger, 38 simply is not the most valuable player in the Hawks' system. There are several prospects, who have upside, that can fill a Top-9 role. Hartman simply was not a lock to play top minutes.

Had Hartman worked out as a center, I think he would still be on this team. Right now, the center depth is suspect. Kampf and Toews are the only ones who can reliably win a face off.

The stupid penalties also hurt his case.

sent away a former 1st rounder having a bad year like half the hawks roster; 23 with upside and may fit into the preds structured system and 3rd line winger...

hawks get an late unknown 1st, a project center; i can see why this trade works well for the preds...

also Q screwed around with him up and down line-up and used him as a center; hartman is NOT A center...despite his at times bad penalties he was not developed or used right here..

- bogiedoc

So they get an under performing, undisciplined player....and it "works for them"

If Stan made this trade (trading a 1st, a big center prospect and a 4th) for an underperforming player...he'd be crucified.

for those upset about moving Hartman, have to also consider how much his value will continue to diminish and how badly his development would have been handicapped by continuing to operate under Quenneville's tantrums with him. A player the head coach doesnt like or refuses to give significant minutes, roles, or linemates essentially becomes useless at the end of the day.

Justin can you elaborate since he's been traded. Was it attitude or was it chemistry within the locker room

This ^.

This all but confirms that Q will be back next season. May as well get as much as you can for Hartman now rather than have him go through the same thing next season and really have his value diminished.

So for all the people that love to bash bowman, and was about to before even seeing the return for hartman....are you same guys going to praise him for getting a 1st rd pick in this deal?

That was an amazing deal for the hawks. A 1st for hartman? wow

- Bhawks35

I'll eat crow. I never expected that sort of return for Hartman.

Well, Stan, maybe it is time to do something with the coach. How many players get shipped out before that happens?
