Hartman to the Preds for a first.

Hopefully This helps some team pay a first for Maroon....

Paul Statsny off to Winnipeg for their first. Maybe StLouis just freed up space?

- Iggysbff

Could be the basis of a possible Maroon destination. Maroon is from STL if that helps...

Interesting that WPG would go for another vet. center... especially at that price too. Doubt they'll resign Statsny (32 years old) though. Could be that they're going all in I suppose?

If it's 3m or less, I'm okay with that. Anything more, and I'll start up a billboard gofundme.... we'll definitely come up with something.

Not okay with it regardless of cap hit. We need speed and a stronger commitment to better systems and I think Maroon limits us too much in both capacities.

If they don't trade him, I'd rather sign him compared to him walking.

So, we need a new coach in other words.

Maroon at his best is an effective top 6 winger that has great chemistry with McDavid (might argue that anyone can be good/form greate chemistry with McD, and as history shows, this simply isn't the case). Big body, skilled, not the fastest player, but can hold his own.

3m/2y and wait on Khaira to develop/progress further, along with Benson in the pipeline. If he wants more than 3m, trade him before it's too late! More term, farthest I'll go is 3 years. However, 3m/2y gives him a chance to explore FA if he wants to at 31...

No point to weaken LW depth at this point. We've got nothing in the system other than Benson. Khaira has been looking good, but uncertainty lies ahead. Slepy (LW?) also is another uncertainty. Only LW I'd worry about is Lucic. I just hope this year is a down year for him. If not, we're f'd.

We wouldn't be in this position if we didn't resign Russel...

However, knowing Chia, prolly gonna give him 4.5/5 years.

Overall, what I think this team needs is a coaching change honestly.

But first, Chia needs to pay for the prior offseason.

We'd be in exactly the same position because we needed somebody to play in our top-4 with Sekera out. One way or another, that 4 million was gonna be used on a Dman.

Would we though?

Certainly a competent GM could have tried to explore 1y deal options or make a few calls to see if any vets on expiring contracts were available.

One name does ring a bell though. Markov was available. If he wanted 6m/1y (the lurking rumor about), give it to him and attain certainty until Sekera comes back. Next season, he is gone. No cap damage, long-term wise.

If so, we might not be in this situation.

Edit: wanted a multi-year contract. Don't murder me for this plz. Misinformed with that regard.

Pretty sure Markov wasn't your solution. If I recall, he wanted a multi-year deal and not getting that is why he left. I believe he was only interested in signing in Montreal.

My preference at the time was Schlemko as he was cheap but him being here wouldn't have made us better; likely would've been worse.

Right you are.

Anywho, wasn't my solution, but it was still something to consider at the time if nothing was working out in Montreal (Chia could have held talks to gauge any interest in such a proposal).

Regardless, options should have been explored, rather than see Chia give Russell a multi-year deal.

I'd even feel better about riding a Klefbom/Nurse/Larsson/Bennings/Auvitu combo (and hoping for Nurse and/or Bennings to pan out) of a top 4 (until Sekera came back) than jeopardizing the long-term future of the team if our only other option was resigning Russell to that contract.

Very risky short-term wise, but we won't need to deal with an albatross of a contract going forward.
