Justin, I've felt for weeks that Toronto will make a play for Duncan Keith. Seems like the guy that would command the biggest haul, and this is a from a dad whose first born son is named "Duncan"!

Not a cap guy, but would think something like this would work:

TOR>Keith
CHI>$$$UFA-to-be, bottom-pair cost controlled D, cost-controlled high upside F prospect, 1st pick & other pick

I really think that team is missing a shut down defenseman, if I were the Leafs I'd be kicking the door down for Hjalmarsson, he'd be a perfect defenseman for that team.

Columbus with 65 points is a buyer in a wild card spot.

The Hawks with 62 points are not even close to a playoff spot and are a seller. Is there something wrong with the playoff structure? Maybe wild cards should cross conferences? And maybe we are not as bad as we think we are.

Hartman is young, a former First Rounder with both talent and grit ( which Hawks lack ). Can we stop hypothetically trading him - especially for little or nothing in return.
- Z3Hawk

We keep trading him because he plays 1 all-world game, then takes the next 5 off. Perhaps if he brought it every night, he’d have locked down a spot.

If a package around Hartman gets you a young Top 4 projected Dman, sign me up! I would love to keep him though as his style of play is exactly what the Hawks lack throughout most of the lineup....heart, grit, physicality, fearlessness and a willingness to battle.

That's not a bad idea either. I do know that Babcock (or is reported to be as we are not personal acquaintances ) is a yuuge fan of Keith. I also think Keith might be a bit of a better puck mover in the o-zone and might be better at attacking from the back for a young team with speed.

Toronto needs both Keith AND Hjallmarsson if the expect to get past Pittsburgh or Tampa in the East. Their defense is not much better than the Hawks.

The hate on Hartman is ridiculous. It is clearly a manifestation of his treatment by Q and we all know Q is always dead-on right about every personnel decision. Arguably he should be an untouchable - however, if he is not an untouchable then the return must be very high.

So if they could have gotten vermette for less, what was the exact lower deal that would have gotten him, since you are 100% certain they could have?
- PatShart

It is not often that I see eye to eye with Q but I would not have traded for him at all as I saw him as a player with limited skill and limited speed. The crazy thing about this debate is the re-writing of history - there was absolute silence after the season ended concerning making room to re-sign him. Q clearly did not want him back but NOBODY was saying Vermette was so freakin’ great we have to find a way to keep him and the reason for that was was he was not so freakin’ great and Q despised him.

Yep, and by Q sitting Vermette is the reason we won the cup he finally became defensively responsible.

They only became#2's because the Hawks won the cup

So you are confirming that we gave up a First Round draft choice and a player we could’ve used in a different trade for a veteran player who didn’t have a clue how to play defence. Come on Dots. Also I just want to get this clear - you are officially defending trading for Kimonen who could barely move let alone play. Again come on Dots.

Kimonen did come at a high price but I still don’t think it was as bad as most people do.

The conditional fourth-round pick in 2016 became a third-round selection if the Hawks reach the Western Conference finals, a second-round pick if the Hawks reach the Stanley Cup Final and Timonen plays in half of the games.

Before the playoffs he played in 16 games ATOI was 12:00.

He played in 18 playoff games ATOI 8:40. His CORSI during the playoffs was 48.3. Hjalmarsson CORSI was 47.0, Oduya’s was 48.0 granted Kimonen starts were predominantly in the offensive zone. I think his locker room presence also was a lift for the club.

walleye - I’m sorry but Kimonen was awful and basically had to be protected when he was on the ice. You knew when the season ended he was retiring as he should have retired before the season ended.

Anyone suggesting the Kimo trade was anything other than a total laugh fest is simply not to be reasoned with. The guy was FINISHED ... Canadiens gave up ONE #2 to get Petry...but ole' Stan found a way to give up TWO #2 for Kimo. Laughable on every level. Yet, some people defend this? Obviously relatives of Stanley.

Now come on it was obviously Q’s fault he went from a 2nd and a 4th to two 2nds. Why in the heck did he play him in half those games.

That is probably not a good sign for us making any trades off our current roster.

I'm only defending the fact Bowman went all in. That's what I want my gm to do. It's not like the Hawks traded Subban in his prime, or gave away Carter and Richards in their prime, there's been horrible deals out there or non deals by playoff teams cough cough Canadiens.

I hated the Danault and Hjalmarsson deal.

Personally I give this team another year with all the same parties in place, I can see them thinking they had something with Panarin them realizing he is a no show in the playoffs and basically reshuffling the deck this year playing Ulfs style defence.

Btw how many Cups have the Habs won lately,

I wouldn’t read that much into it, back to back games Berube coming off an injury.

Hmm. Ok explain this. Remember what the Hawk Cap issues were at that time. Even if Q was in love with Vermy, where was the money to resign him? There was silence because they didn't have any money. He was already making like $3.5M when the Hawks got him and he wasn't giving a team he just came to a hometown discount.

Honestly I'm not sure wth any of what you posted has to do with anything. It's really not all that hard to get. The Hawks needed center depth for a playoff run. They traded for a center. Said center scored almost 20% of GWG's during the Cup run. Move worked. End of story. Move on. Oh yeah and they gave up Klas (frank)ing Dhalbeck and a 30 overall pick. If you don't trade that every (frank)ing day of the week and twice on Sunday to cement a Cup win...then I (no one) can help you...sorry got a little worked up there.

He’s done for the year, the bigger question is if he’ll come back.

So foley says “the hawks find themselves back at .500”. What a bunch of marketing B.S. No wonder they like their team.

Here we go again with this site and not thinking things through. Powers has reported, and I just verified on cap friendly, AA has a NMC (No Move Clause). He is not going anywhere without his consent. The Hawks are not holding him out of the lineup. He is not going anywhere. As Powers reported, after this season AA has a modified NTC (No Trade Clause) where he can provide a list of ten teams that he can be traded to.

Kane, Toews, Keith and Seabrook are going nowhere. Neither is Saad. Likely trade candidates are Wingels, Bouma and Jurco. That's about it. We won't be buyers and we are only selling our secondary guys. No clue why JJ is reporting that about AA without mentioning his NMC.
