And Vermette was, is, elite at the dot with a career FO percentage of 57%. A perfect add for the Hawks' run. - Mr Ricochet
Pretty sure Vermy was right around 57% during the playoffs and the line he centered chipped in some big goals...not just him but Teuvo, and Sharp got that one when the defenders collided or defender and goalie I think, allowing him an empty netter to get things started in that final Lightning game. |

The returns for Brassard and Nash, a 3rd line center and a diminishing scrub (no i don't like Nash so he's probably not THAT bad) shows this is a huge sellers market. Three is no excuse not to parlay that into some picks/prospects/young players given the Hawks situation. I think 'doing nothing' would not be smart for this team. |

Those deals are both massive overpayments, especially for Nash. But these deals leave me a bit confused, I thought Stan was the only GM that made bad trades? |

Think this was the first time I read from a hockey guy outside of Chicago that it's tough for new midseason adds to grasp Q's systems. IIRC it took some time for Vermette to get minutes in season before Q thought he grasped the Q way of doing things.

Too early to say, Kaner. If the Pens repeat or Baaahston wins the cup they have to be considered great deals. If not they suck.

How does that logic apply? The Hawks won a Cup after acquiring Timonen but it was still one of the worst deals in the history of the NHL.

I don't think the Pens is a massive overpayment, because they spread out the value among two teams AND Ottawa got good return as did Pitt, I think that was just really creative.
Just because the market is set is not suggesting a GM 'did bad'...quit reading everything as an attack on Bowman geeze.
Not sure wtf Boston is doing. But Ill admit my view on that may be a bit biased because I am NOT a Rick Nash fan.
The entire point of my post which devolved of course was to say the TDL is a nice time to be sellers. So if there's anything good about having a down year, this may be it. |

I’m just having some fun and being sarcastic (yes that’s new for me).
I don’t mind the Brassard deal either, it’s pretty solid. But he Nash deal is terrible. |

Cuz you win the cup, period. I guess the argument with Timonnen was they would have won the cup without him and wasted using two 2nd rounders to acquire him. Thing is you never know if they would have won the cup without him. ...
One could make a solid argument that they would have but you just don't know.

LOL I got ya. I agree with you on both accounts. The Pens gave up value to make a run, but the Sens did not get screwed.
Im with you the Boston thing kills me.
And there is still over 24 hours left in the TDL, I fully expect the Hawks to make a deal or two. No need for me (or anyone) to bash Stan on a deadline that still has its prime moments to go. |

The Bruins’ loss extended beyond the scoreboard. Patrice Bergeron was seen leaving the Air Canada Centre with a boot on his right foot. On the HNIC intermission panel, Nick Kypreos speculated that if the injury is serious, Bergeron could be placed on LTIR to make room for Rick Nash. As well, the Rangers can take on as much as 50 percent of Nash’s $7.8 million cap hit in any deal. Nash or no Nash, the Bruins are back in action today (Sunday) against Buffalo, so it’s probably safe to assume Bergeron won’t be in the lineup for that game. |

At most I’d expect one of the pending UFAs moved. Anisimov might be moved but I’d guess that’s more of a draft day deal than a trade deadline deal. Maybe the Hawks get a couple more mid-round picks but that’s about it. |

I think that's a mistake. This is a time to move a guy like AA, with the fires hot for help. My goodness, Plekanec is getting run in these rumor mills and I'd NEVER want that guy over AA. There are at least 3 teams (Jets, CBJ, Philly) said to be in the market for a center to make a playoff push. AA is the perfect movable piece. Yea I guess it may not happen, but it should in my view. |

AA would be that perfect piece if he was a UFA. With the term left on his contract it will look better and better as the Cap increases and subsequently the salaries for centers. With that in mind, we should get better value for him in a future hockey trade rather than in a TDL deal. |

Reporting on the twitters this morning is Bergeron’s injury isn’t serious and he’s a “gametime” decision tonight. Will edit to post actual tweet if I find it. |

On another note and can someone help me out here. JVR is often coveted by Hawks fans on this forum, yet everytime I see a Leaf fan talk about him they can't wait to get rid of him.
What gives? |

Enzo,
He has one bad year. Hossa had a bad year in 2015-2016 and did you write him off the same? Saad should've had 2 goals tonight if Bob didn't come up huge. Sometimes you get snake bitten. I don't disagree with Hossa and Kane making players look better. Look at what Kane and Toews did for Bickell they made him a complete playoff superstar... Argument can be made for several players around the league.
If Saad shot his career average then he would be on the 20 goal mark at this point. So it's respectable. If Toews shot his career shooting percentage he would be at 28 goal mark.
I think Hawks fans think Saad and Panarin trade was suppose to be a clean swap where Saad would light it up. The team as a whole hasn't been lighting it up so hard to single out one player.
If the hawks had a decent powerplay this year the offensive numbers would be inflated more, but it's been horrible. And for Toews yall need to layoff a bit since his offensive numbers have never truly set the world on fire. He has exceed 70 points once. He is at 40 with 19 games left. Not amazing, but bring it back to the powerplay which has caused a lot of the point drop off this season for our core players.
And look we lost tonight because 0-3 on the powerplay. Panarin looks so amazing because he is a pure offensive talent. We didn't truly replace Saad for Panarin. We replaced Saad for Hossa and Panarin with Debrincat. Debrincat is a much similar player to Panarin and producing almost same rate but for 1/6 of the cost. - lilmookie630

One man's trash is another man's potpourri. I don't know its some kind of soup.
Little comic relief today fellas. I agree that its a sellers market and AA can bring back some good returns. Just have to do it. Need some D help coming back. And or Boone Jenner. |

Fair deal for both sides. Toronto improves their depth without giving up major assets but Montreal gets prospects with potential.
