The team only does as well as Letang, Crosby and Malkin do and all 3 are having crap seasons so far. Combine that with below average goaltending (which for some reason was a bigger deal when MAF was here) and you have one of the worst 5on5 teams in the league.

The Pens have fundamental flaws as a team that go way beyond a below average 4th line and its getting really tedious when you beat that same dead horse every blog.

Why don't you take some of that 4th line criticism and apply it to the top 2 lines? Also, if we could stop the Disco Dan line juggling every shift that would be nice too.

I'm not sure how this is a problem that would only impact the Pens? Of course the team only does as well as their 3 highest players do. If Ovi, Backstrom, Carlson or Stamkos, Kucherov, Hedman or Toews, Kane, Keith/Seabs are all not playing well for their teams, they're in bad shape too. This isn't just an issue with the Pens.

The team has flaws, without a doubt, but there's only so much you can do with a cap in place. They just won two cups, many of their stars played in the World Cup of Hockey, and they've been dealing with injuries. The move for Reaves was pointless and Hagelin's contract is an anchor at the moment - but there weren't really many mistakes made in the off-season. I'm willing to cut them some slack. There's a reason why they're the first team to go back-to-back since the Wings, expecting a 3rd is so unlikely. I'd love to see them playing better, and I still think they'll make the playoffs, but I think we need to be realistic with our expectations for the team.

The more I watch him the more I like him. He's not "fast"...but, he has quick hands and is in the right places on the ice. He's another intelligent player. Reminds me sooooo much of Jokinen.

I mean, they're very similar players with speed, age, production, salary. Boedker is a little bigger, but used to be more injury prone. However, he may have the fresher legs right now and can play both wings.

Yeah if we were in the situation we were in 2015 where it looked like we had (frank) all in the pipeline and we were trying to turn Hagelin into anything at all, then I'd say sure, go for it, but since we do have top 6 talent, I wouldn't do it.
