Cole isn't going to get re-signed at 2.25M, that is why they signed Hunwick. Cole is 2.1M now and as a FA he will get 3M+ I bet. If they could afford his extension they wouldn't be trying to sign and trade so aggressively.

Toronto didn't sign Bozak's cheaper replacement during the offseason. You just aren't familiar with the Pens cap and salary structure, or the value of players on other teams.

That is why Cole's agent has permission to talk with teams. It will be a sign and trade, just like Turris to Nashville. Pittsburgh signed Hunwick cause he was affordable. Cole outplayed his 2.1M AAV and hes going to be getting a raise. (more than Hunwicks 3 year 2.25M AAV)
