Going forward, for the next 5 years, Seabrook's contract will be a bigger and bigger deal. If the Hawks can move that contract and save even $1 million a year in doing so. It'll help.
Q has been able to shield him somewhat recently. Playing him fewer minutes.

- tompo1015

Hmm I'm not saying Seabrook's play is ever going to match his cap hit, but with a rising cap, it's not going to be as big a deal to have his cap hit on the book. Well, as long as Bowman balances the cap in other areas, of course. But the fact is that until the Hawks have legit defenders that can replace what Seabrook brings currently, they should not move him. If they find value more than just blank cap space, then okay but I would not move him for $1m in savings with a meh return / forced to sign a lesser d-man.

Also, Q is not really shielding Seabrook - he's taken him off special teams to help with his work load, but Seabrook is still facing mid/high QOC. Technically, Q is not matching his pairs to opposing lines - he's more picking his line/pairs as units and/or focusing on their zone deployment. Seabrook-Murphy are currently facing the Silfverberg (1/2 LW) line against the Ducks. Pretty much Seabrook is getting 2nd pairing QOC with 3rd pairing TOI. That's not sheltering.

For years, the Ducks have been known to be sorry with their sticks. Up 3 goals, the Hawks just gotta walk away. No need to give these guys extra powerplays.

That should be "dirty with their sticks". Damn phone.

never doubted...he was getting some great chances early on but not finding the net...now he is...

he is top 6 needs to play with top six...

yes that 3rd line with sharp and hartmann have been pretty good tonight...vs a depleted duck forward corp...but they not been good most of the last 5 or 6 games

Oh, I thought the last game was Sharp's best in a while and the two before were decent. They were kind of building something and tonight broke out.

I do agree Debrincat would be better suited with top 6 caliber players on the regular, but the top 6 has also been strong lately as is.

That's a lot of size and long reaches with Murphy on his left. Kaner is going down as the greatest US born player when it's all said and done.

**IF** the cap goes up.

Given Seabrook's limitations, esp going forward (FIVE YEARS) i think finding a reliable 3rd pair Dman to take Seabrook's place at half the cap hit, or less, should be do-able.
Seabrook has only been getting 10-12 minutes a night recently. He can be (more) effective with less minutes. Q's no dummy, he's seen Seabrook's physical skills diminishing.

Lol okay so now I can't take you seriously cause you have to know Seabrook hasn't gotten close to 12 or less minutes this season, right? His lowest time was 16:26 (partially due to how many penalties there was in the game) but he's coming off a 18/19+ minute games against the Florida teams. And again, Seabrook is still getting 2nd pairing comp/deployment and go look at some shift charts in the recent games and tell me who does Q has out there. Yeah, not being on special teams is helping regulate his minutes better but the rest is pretty standard.

And the cap is going up as it has every year recently but okay.

Y'all pick some wild topics when the team is winning.

Hartman made Perry flinch so hard though which was pretty hilarious. Need a gif of that like yesterday.

What I love about the 4th line is from top of the circle to top of the circle they never stop skating, never 100% all the time.

If Schmaltz uses his speed to play defense like he does offense, he can be special. Already good defensively but he can be great.
