Mornin' JJ. Big win last night. But very early and against a skating team like the Pens. Interested to see how the Hawks fair against a more physical opponent that will clog up the middle of the ice. A good test coming tomorrow night.

Very tough schedule for the Hawks early so any points that they can bank all the better.

Also classy move on the Hawks with Bickell last night. Nice to see him get a nice send off after all he's been through.

Hayden looked real solid too. Schmaltz looked liked a young Spezza out there with more wheels. He plays so long too. That leg though

Q mentioned in the presser 'likely' play Saturday. If that's John Fox schmaltz is out for the season.

Also real nice game for Sharpie last night...that goal off the bank pass from AA was a beaut. Hip looks good.

What a spanking. The Hawks came out so fired up and the Pens seemed so flat. 4 goals before the 10 minute mark?! Pens packed it in early. Pretty pathetic effort overall.

mega dittos

did the hawks play that well or were the pens that bad...i think both are accurate...
0-6 on the pp and get 10 goals 5 on 5... a black swan double..

anti niemi...wow different team same result...
wowzer the first 2 lines: they had it going

pens looked like they had to much malkin vodka and just did not give a poop from one end of the bench to the other...

and when you do that vs a team with something prove you take a huge beat down..

Great summary John- you touched on all the key points.

We all know it’s one Game but regardless of the outcome - it’s hard to ignore the new found speed.
From Everyone up front!

Back end is a work in progress.

Saad and Forsberg for Panarin and Motte- maybe Torts comes out the villain for playing Saad on the 4th Line😡
Time will tell

Hawks fortunately caught them on their first of 19 back to backs and the Pens aren't the same team as the past 2 years, its a partial rebuild on the fly. It may be a little rough for them first half of the season, but they"ll figure it out. But it may have to be with a different backup than Niemi.

any word on tanner kero? his knee-to-knee hit looked far worse that 8's.

"returning Hawks Brandon Saad (with a hat trick) and Patrick Sharp (1 goal), Richard Panik (1 goal, 1 assist) and Nick Schmaltz (2 goals and an assist)."

All true JJ. But, I thought Hartman was flying out there and was as noticeable as the mentioned four...but, that's nit-picking. A great effort overall. Now on to the weekend.
I think Monday's match against the high-flying "Young-gun" Leafs will be a great test of how our "D"....(in MY opinion, our biggest concern) can hold up against such a fast and skilled group.

you have saad crashing and skating along with kane wheeling and dealing...= very bad news for the opposing teams

not another player in the league can get this shot on net let alone in the net..he backhanded roofed that shot a foot from the red line...damn

Raise your hand if you saw that coming.

Can we hear from the posters that said we should model the Penguins.

Over hyped prospects Schmaltz (never gonna be a top 6, marginal NHL caliber), Hartman (not top 6), Hayden (too slow) did ok.

I thought the 4 young Dmen also did ok. Some nice hits in the corners and in front of the net. Maybe Ulfies influence. Still a lot of shaky plays.

Just one game. Early in the season. Against a team that played the night before. Against a team that played a lot of hockey in the last two years. Against a weak D and some poor goaltending. On home ice. But still not too shabby.

If Kero sits Wingels plays. He probably was going to play anyway at wing, so maybe they shift him over to center.

I thought Bouma had a good showing. With Hayden and Bouma on the wings throwing their bodies around line that 4th line could be hard to play against.
