Being that the Oil is my second fav team as they’ve been a last resort destination so to speak for players much like the isles.

I’d like to see them mimic the Leafs and hire a well respected President who will then hire a legit GM. There’s simply no excuse with all their talent...

I vote for bringing back Messier and making him POHO

Clearly you were very young during the 80's (if alive at all) if you are an Isles and Oilers fan.

I was very young.....but it’s a different league now. 20 years ago i HATEDDDD the Rangers and now it’s like whatever. Rivalries change, and i don’t hate the Oil because they ruined the drive for 5, 30 some odd years ago...

All comes down to being able to identify the players you need to keep and the ones you can trade. Play it safe GM's and teams normally do not go far.

And go out and get a starting goaltender.

In the drafts in which Hextall was GM, he picked the following players who are ALREADY regulars on the Flyers roster: Travis Sanheim, Oskar Lindblom, Ivan Provorov, Travis Konecny, Carter Hart and Nolan Patrick. Morgan Frost will join them shortly.

Chiarelli on the other hand: Connor McDavid (duh), Jesse Puljujarvi (needs to be in the AHL), Kailer Yamamoto (needs to be in the AHL). Caleb Jones and Ethan Bear have had a sniff in the NHL, but are both now playing in Bakersfield. Bouchard and Benson should make the bigs, but only time will tell.

So yeah, maybe Hextall only looks competent in comparison, but I haven't any issues with his drafting.

- Wildschwein

The main difference is Hextall has not hit the panic button many times and traded young talent for a minor fix (Hall, Eberle, etc.). Flyers have a solid young core of kids that will get better and some prospects too. Add that to the guys making a lot and they should be a better team. Hextall also inherited a lot of head ache contracts that he is still slowly unloading.

And coaching of course. Lot of GM's seem to be to insecure to hire a proven coach.

agreed.. he is reverting back to 2012 Bailey.. awful.

He's not moving his feet, he looks like he's just floating out there. Doesn't help that he's slower than evolution.

And again I’ll use my Hextall is another way of saying Snow line. Both former NHL goaltenders had issues bringing a starter to their respective organizations. Whatever your beliefs are hockeywise, teams start and stop with the goaltender. Simply no excuse for either GM to not make that a priority. We see the results of that in both teams lack of success under said GMs tenure.

Snow had some hits in the draft too, and i always said he shoulda been a scout not a General manager. Same goes for Hextall. Just my opinion but if you want the Oil to become a top team i think you say no thanks to Ronnie Hextall

Not a coincidence that a veteran GM like Lou Lam came in and right away took care of the goaltender issue.

- kindlyrick

Yeah, except Hextall had less than 4 years to right the Flyers. Snow had over a decade. Hextall also (arguably) drafted the Flyers soon to be franchise starter, and chose (rightly) not to rush his development.

As far as Lou fixing the Isles goaltending, I'm putting that almost solely on the shoulders of Mitch Korn. I'll gladly give kudos to Lou for bringing Korn (and Trotz) into the organization however.

I'm not saying Hextall is the Oilers best option. But I am saying I'd gladly have him over a typical Oilers choice in Lowe, MacT, K Gretzky or Messier (shudder).

I'll put up with Moose for a game if it mean sitting Bailey.

Is he perhaps playing a little banged up? You'd think Trotz would sit his ass otherwise.

Bailey has been teflon for most of his career. He had some pretty bad turnovers last night. It would've been interesting to see what Trotz would do if they were playing in two or three days. The break will likely cool everything down.

I guess it’s possible, but they’re pretty shallow as far as RW depth. Ho Sang is really the next top-6 option and he doesn’t seem to be in anyone’s good graces at the moment.

Makes sense.

Bridgeport sitting 4th in the overall AHL standing, Isles 5th overall in the NHL.

What a time to be alive.

I imagine that's only the case if Ladd is healthy. I think they just want to give him the opportunity to play in the AHL Allstar game.

Staple seems to think it's a bit odd that Toews went down but BPT only has one game so it's not overworking him I guess.
