I believe that would be a scream of joy and/or disbelief that it finally happened. Just sayin'
- Isleshockeyman

I think you might be right. Could also be some fear about who could be taking over.

He won't though. He hasn't been that bad of late. He's tied for second on the team in scoring. Yeah a couple bad turnovers last night but his overall body of work isn't that bad. The positives outweigh the negatives.

Still would be a great message for Barry to send that even vets can sit. Bailey has been turning the puck over worse than JHS.

You just better pray they don't interview Snow.

Being that the Oil is my second fav team as they’ve been a last resort destination so to speak for players much like the isles.

I’d like to see them mimic the Leafs and hire a well respected President who will then hire a legit GM. There’s simply no excuse with all their talent...

I vote for bringing back Messier and making him POHO

I still think Hextall and Garth are ther same person. Look how they both hoarded prospects.

I see Keith Gretzky has taken over on an interim basis.

Incredible how similar they were as GM's. I do think Stevie is headed to the Wings. I thought Messier turned down the Oilers in the past for a job?

That’s more than a wee bit harsh, especially when you look at his draft successes.

And yeah, Stevie Y won’t happen. That is but a sweet dream.

Please explain the draft success that Hextall has had. I can’t recall the flyers doing much of anything under Hextalls tenure.

Edit : before this gets into a nerdy google search my point wasn’t to list pick for pick but rather that the flyers have done basically zero under his tenure much like Snow.

I think much like a player who’s under contract, another team can’t talk to someone else’s “property”. Who knows. I don’t see Snow getting another GM job anywhere in the NHL, ever.

How do they let him sign Koskinen to that deal then fire him a day after?😂😂😂
- Cptmjl

I believe one of the TSN Edmonton guys reported that it was ownership and the rest of the management group that negotiated that one, which means they were probably behind waiving Spooner as well.

In the drafts in which Hextall was GM, he picked the following players who are ALREADY regulars on the Flyers roster: Travis Sanheim, Oskar Lindblom, Ivan Provorov, Travis Konecny, Carter Hart and Nolan Patrick. Morgan Frost will join them shortly.

Chiarelli on the other hand: Connor McDavid (duh), Jesse Puljujarvi (needs to be in the AHL), Kailer Yamamoto (needs to be in the AHL). Caleb Jones and Ethan Bear have had a sniff in the NHL, but are both now playing in Bakersfield. Bouchard and Benson should make the bigs, but only time will tell.

So yeah, maybe Hextall only looks competent in comparison, but I haven't any issues with his drafting.

I’m not comparing Chia to Hextall draft wise. I’m only saying that under Hextalls tenure with the flyers they haven’t done much.

Most of the picks you mentioned were first rounders.....they’re supposed to be good and honestly the GM has a team of scouts doing the leg work on said players. Perhaps Hextall shoulda been a scout? Lindblom was a late rounder but so was Anders Lee....proof that any GM can hit once in a while.

That’s awesome so the rest of the management team and ownership is just as out to lunch as Chiarelli.

True.

I just saw more good than bad in his tenure. The Flyers (in my mind) have been hampered by a lack of quality goaltending more than anything else. With Carter Hart up and coming, I can't blame him for being patient until he thought the kid was ready.

And again I’ll use my Hextall is another way of saying Snow line. Both former NHL goaltenders had issues bringing a starter to their respective organizations. Whatever your beliefs are hockeywise, teams start and stop with the goaltender. Simply no excuse for either GM to not make that a priority. We see the results of that in both teams lack of success under said GMs tenure.

Snow had some hits in the draft too, and i always said he shoulda been a scout not a General manager. Same goes for Hextall. Just my opinion but if you want the Oil to become a top team i think you say no thanks to Ronnie Hextall

Not a coincidence that a veteran GM like Lou Lam came in and right away took care of the goaltender issue.
