Aside from the obvious comedy that Pete Chiarelli managed to turn Jordan Eberle into a waived-Ryan-Spooner in only two deals, Rattie would be a good depth pickup for BPT and a potential call-up if we have some injuries at RW.

This has been your useless, unimportant thought of the day.

Amazing the difference that's made when a coach is prepared and makes adjustments on the fly.
Snow was so egotistical that it was unfathomable that it would make any difference. He was the smartest guy in the room and he was going to surround himself with idiots to ensure it. Ego was Snow's downfall, imho. Just look at the Halak situation. He didn't bring him back up because of ego. Snow cost the team (I think more than likely) a playoff spot because of ego.

Of all the bad moves he made the one thing that stands out to me is when he was asked about the Vanek debacle and instead of admitting the mistake of it all, he said he’d do it again. Just giving away a first round pick......and that right there is why the isles sucked for 12 years of his mismanagement.

Everyone is playing well as a team. I'm pretty opinionated and I have my issues with certain individual players but the reality is they're playing as a unit and there's nothing serious to complain about. Everyone has bought in and they're seeing what happens when they're not following a blind bandleader like Dipshit Doug

100%. this season is really becoming amazing. I don’t even think we as fans know how to handle this much winning. Lol. The fact that the leafs are slumping makes it even better. The entire NHL had the leafs hoisting the cup on July 1

Being totally honest here, I don't think I've ever felt this confident playing just about any team. Their defense is stifling and they're getting great goaltending.

I fully anticipate Lehner and/or Greiss to falter for a period at some point but the fact is that they're giving themselves the padding in the standings they need to weather that kind of storm. Not to mention that they're so good at limiting opponents offense that even if the goaltenders slip a little, I think they can still be successful.

Smith vs. Samsonov. Aho is on for warmup.

Sounds like Aho is either back in the lineup or about to be. That's good news.

Yep, the way they've spread the ice time and goal scoring around shows that it's all about doing it as a team. It kind of makes it harder to think about what to add or deal since you don't want to mess up what they have going.

Also, seeing Lehner in the post-game interview doing the "Yes" chant and all that...I'm pretty sure they can bring him back on a fair deal if they want him

It's really, really unfortunate but Lehner is going to get wrapped up in a potential Sorokin saga. Sorokin is the #1 priority for the Isles right now and if he's coming over they have to take care of him over Lehner. It's a shitty part of the business, but the reality is that Sorokin is younger, better, and cheaper (for 1 year).

I would love to see them dump Greiss and re-sign Lehner for the 1B/backup role and go with Sorokin/Lehner...but Lehner is having a Vezina-caliber year and he's probably going to want to cash in on that. I'm sure he'd give the Isles somewhat of a discount for being supportive/helping get his career back on track/etc..., but he's not gonna take peanuts.

If Sorokin isn't coming over, I fully expect Lehner to re-sign.

That remains to be seen as far as the bold. Kid has never played in the NHL.

It's no guarantee he's as good in the NHL as in the KHL, but I'm pretty comfortable in saying that Sorokin is a more talented goaltender. There's also no guarantee Lehner replicates this season again.

Agreed on everything. I’ve never seen an isles team this tight as a unit. The gap control is second to none. If the isles score first they have the ability to shut it down.

The goaltending has been great don’t get me wrong, but they’re also seeing mostly low percentage shots. The forwards have done a 360 with respect to playing defense and helping out in the d zone.

If Lehner finishes the season this strong i don’t see how you don’t re sign him. If that means moving Greiss so be it.

I really like the idea of trying to add a Pageau or Dzingel instead of Duchene. Not that I'm against Duchene, but he'll be expensive and adding versatile defensive forwards that can score also may benefit the Isles just as much without forking over a ton of assets.

You’re right but even if he is the sensational netminder that his numbers suggest, how do you not re sign Lehner? Biggest and best story in the entire NHL.

Greiss won't be easy to move with a $3.33M cap hit. They'd probably have to eat some of that contract and take back very little in order to facilitate a deal. I'm all for that, for the record.

I hear you i just think Duchene is somewhat of a replacement of PJB, and we all know there’s an extra 11 shmilly laying around for said replacement. Not that he’s worth that kinda money, but the point is they have it to spend.

No doubt about it, but they can go after him in July if they really want to spend that money. If they trade for him they'll have to fork over a 1st+a really good prospect, at a minimum, and then spend that same money on him over the summer anyway.

I wouldn’t give up ANYTHING for a guy you know is going to July 1 to get that money. One thing about Lou is he’s respected. If he calls, they’re gonna listen. I’m confident that if he wants a player, he’ll get said player.

I'm not necessarily against ponying up a big package for Duchene, but there is a very real risk that he tests UFA no matter what. He's gotten this far and he may want to go to market to get top dollar on his last mega-contract.
