I'd move him. They're not winning the cup so get what you can for him.
- JimmyP

I would still move Eberle.

I think most fans would say trade him if he doesn't sign and bring up Ho Sang, Bellows, or Special K to replace him.
- niteislander

Is that what they're calling Koivula?

I think Eberle stays and this team makes a run. I don’t think they have a cup team but the way they’re playing, they’ll take any team to a game 7 and anything can happen. 100% Lou is a buyer

The good GM's always make a decision that benefits the team long term. The only time you should ever not look to the future is when you are really close. When you are a cup contender and 1 more player can be the difference between a cup or no cup you make that move. Especially when it's the GM's first year so there is really no pressure to "win now" with this team.
- niteislander

Agreed, but everyone from media and fans will criticize a gm no matter what they do unless the team wins a cup. Its always a little tougher when the team is in the middle too. Especially dealing with pending ufa's

Majority perhaps, but personally I'd still move him.

He has 2 apples and a -6 in 13 playoff games. He was scared poopless in those games, routinely turning over the puck every time someone threatened to hit him.

- Wildschwein

Hard to argue with this schwein. Cannot see Eberle being a difference maker. I roll the dice and trade him. Does not mean you move Lehner, Lee, and Nelson as well.

I can't imagine they will allow all the UFA's to stay past the Deadline without an extension. Lou is not Garth... He will offer Lee, Eberle, Lehner, and Brock what they think is a fair price and if it doesn't work... buh bye. Especially after last year... need to send a message. You sign on the line which is dotted or GTFO.
- niteislander

So you think he'll trade all those guys if they don't sign an extension in the next 6wks?

Unless they have a corresponding move to make up for his production then I don't think they'll get rid of him. I don't think the Isles have someone of equal-or-better talent waiting around take over Eberle's spot.

Personally, I'd rather they move him...but I can absolutely understand why they'd hang onto him too.

I wonder if the Isles couldn't find a way to trade Eberle+ to CHI for Saad. Saad makes the same $6M Eberle does but has two more years on his deal after this year. Gives them some solid veteran stability down the right side for another two years while they wait for Wahlstrom.

Bellows and Koivula aren't NHL players right now (or RW's). Ho Sang is both, but still seems to be doing things that coaching staff/mgmt aren't huge fans of so I have a tough time believing that Lou is going to ship out Eberle to replace him with a guy who he just demoted to the AHL.

Eberle isn't having a particularly strong year, but I don't honestly believe any of those three are going to give the Islanders more offensive production and overall value than Eberle. There would need to be a corresponding move for a RW in order to get rid of #7.

It's lousy JHS did not show more when he was given top 6 minutes. Isles could have had a cheap inhouse option. It's going to be some trade deadline at this point. Hope Lee is signed before hand or it will become really interesting.

Does it makes sense to give MDC a look in the top 6 in Eberle's spot? See if he can play RW? This would be the season to try different things and find out about players?

Eberle, Leddy and a pick/prospect for Saad and Gustafsson?

- Wildschwein

I think it'd be tough to trade Leddy going into the playoffs but, more than that, I think one of the big benefits for CHI would be that they're saving $6M/yr on the cap for the next two seasons, which gives them more breathing room. And to a lesser degree, they'll also save more than $13.25M in actual salary owed to him. Including Leddy in the deal would kinda make the savings a wash.

I was thinking more along the lines of something like Eberle, one of the BPT defense prospects (Vande Sompel maybe?), and one of the 2nd rounders for Saad. Something along those lines that gives CHI a solid amount of cap space.

I can definitely see the fit. They'd probably ask for Aho over Sompel, but still not a bad idea.

Probably but I like Aho so if I just say Vande Sompel then the Hawks can't have him. That's how this whole thing works, ok?
