I don't see them resigning filppula and duchene is available after the season, could be a plan or coincidence but i think that who they go after

I don't think Lou would commit any assets if Duchene wasn't committed to a long term commitment.
That would be if in fact he would trade for him versus signing him as a FA where that wouldn't even come into play. This isn't Lou's first rodeo.

Duchene is a perfect fit for the Islanders as far as 2C / 3C and is excellent in the FO dot and PP which as we know the team could use help in.

With Barzal, Duchene, Nelson and CC down the middle this team is very formidable up the middle.

Don't count The Islanders out on Duchene. They are not the same dip shat run team they were the last 2 decades. Evidenced by the by the GM and Coaching changes in the last year.
On top of their prospect pool being strong and a new Arena on the horizon, taking this all into consideration I don't think The Islanders can be discounted by FA's as they have been in the past. Just my opinion, only time will tell.

Perhaps but either way this team is doing OVERLY well and i don’t see a sudden need right now to purge assets for someone who’s not a “need” right now

The ridiculous taxes.

But seriously, I don't think the organization has shaken off the bad reputation. They aren't a lock for the playoffs by any means. Even with the front office shake up it will take some time.

No he makes sense along with panarin and taresenko. Panarin and duchene are ufa's so no need to give up anything this season when they can wait like toronto did

I would think you would go for defenseman before a forward if you are in a playoff position and looking to add. As good as Trotz's system is for team defense I don't know if its good enough with the d you guys have. Think the forward group would be fine.

Unless there is some major upward/downward movement from the Isles prior to the trade deadline...I kinda see them doing nothing.

Nobody in their right mind thinks they're Cup contenders, even fringe ones, so I can't imagine they start coughing up assets to acquire guys. But if they're still in the playoff hunt, it's hard to imagine they jettison any of their pending UFA's either. Maybe a depth move here or there if there's one to be had, but I think this is more-or-less the roster they'll go to battle with in the postseason (if they make it), save for a big swing in the standings.

Yeah, one of the things that kind of stinks when you are middle of the pack, wildcard team.

I would hate to be a gm with a team in that situation, cause you are damned if you do, damned if you dont. You get blamed if any ufa's walk for free and you get blamed if you make moves but don't win a cup.

Eh stand pat wait till offseason i think. This is an over achievement tbh so build on it after the season and keep your assets. Now if a sign and trade is a possibility then yeah go for it now

Just a guess, but I think the majority of Isles fans would rather see them go compete in the playoffs in a season where they thought the sky would be falling instead of getting the 29th overall pick for Eberle

Majority perhaps, but personally I'd still move him.

He has 2 apples and a -6 in 13 playoff games. He was scared poopless in those games, routinely turning over the puck every time someone threatened to hit him.

This doesn't apply to anything ever. Everyone loves to say that but in reality Gretzky was sold by a cash-poor organization. He wasn't traded. Different era, no cap, not relevant.

Not only is Barkov a top-10 center in the league but he's 23 and on a contract that comically-underpays him. Not to mention the Panthers aren't exactly rolling in money, so I'm positive that they're not going to trade him for that package.

Sure the Isles could put together a package that maybe they'd move him for, but I can promise you it's not going to include any of the guys in that deal besides Sorokin. It would be so comically cost-prohibitive to the Islanders that it's not even worth discussing.

- eichiefs9

The point is still Valid.. that one of the best players can be moved... you want other examples?

Taylor Hall... just won the Hart trophy as MVP of the league..was moved for a good young defesnman. If you look in top 50 NHL in points this year you see a bunch of guys that were moved at one point. Tyler Seguin, Phil Kessel, Thornton in his prime, Webber, Subban.... the point is guys are moved often enough if you make it enticing.

I can't imagine they will allow all the UFA's to stay past the Deadline without an extension. Lou is not Garth... He will offer Lee, Eberle, Lehner, and Brock what they think is a fair price and if it doesn't work... buh bye. Especially after last year... need to send a message. You sign on the line which is dotted or GTFO.

I think most fans would say trade him if he doesn't sign and bring up Ho Sang, Bellows, or Special K to replace him.
