The thing is, if you never touch the puck, you can avoid ever turning over the puck. Point being, Ho Sang is a guy counted on to advance the puck, so he's naturally going to turn it over more than a guy who's not doing much with it. So while I watched him turn over the puck a few times, it wasn't obvious to me at the time that he had great alternatives, unless you subscribe to Butchie's "chip and chase" theory.
- JohnScammo

Yeah but hanging onto the puck too long at the opposing blue line under pressure is about as dangerous play as you can make leading to turn overs. I hate to agree with butch but he should fall back on the chip and chase mantračśé

Yeah the entire line had a tough game, but everyone else seemed to play well. I thought Cizikas had a noticeably solid game.
- eichiefs9

I agree about Cizikas. With hindsight, and taking into account what players are earning today, I think he is earning his salary which at the time most of us thought was too high.

As the cap goes up his contract becomes more tolerable. He's still a bit high, but it's definitely getting closer to leveling off to fair compensation.

Any puck hit by an attacking team high stick that defects in is no goal because a deflection isnt possesion and control
- Upstate_isles

Question: What if you hit the puck at a level below your shoulders but above the crossbar and the puck goes off an opposing stick before going into the goal?

Pelech and hickey are OK 5/6 D-men or depth guys if you have someone get hurt. They just are not a top 4... and I am fine with them being in the mix. It's certainly better than the washed up vets like Sbisa (Strait, Martinek, Mattau, Zidlicky, Carkner, etc.).

Good grief, would you stop nitpicking! The guy is +11 with 10 goals, the season is not half over, and he sees zero power play time. Trotz throws his line out against anyone, he's not playing sheltered minutes. He'd have more assists if he had linemates who could shoot the puck. Good luck finding someone else for that money who is equally effective and has passed free agency status.

The Lee-Nelson-Ho Sang line had a mostly bad game last night. Nelson looked pretty bad for most of the night.

Amazing how tolerable an off-night is when the team is being run properly

- eichiefs9

I thought the same thing.. JHS had a few plays where he could have gotten it out of zone in D-zone or gotten it deep in O- zone and gave it away.

Amazing when you have a solid system in place. Nelson really is out of place as a 2C. If Isles keep Nelson he needs to be a 3C.

- ses111

agreed.. I like him as a 3c or included in a trade for a legit 1c/2c.

I know a few guys did not love his contract but when that kid is Healthy he is really the most underrated player on this team. He is 100% every shift, does a ton of really solid plays, kills penalties, etc. I love that kid.

Ho Sang's Icing play when he had all the room in the world to skate the puck out but decided to try a home run pass to Brock what was a mile wide was terrible.

He somehow lost Jonathan Toews when he was on him at one point but managed to scramble back to tie him up to prevent a goal. He just stopped skating with him... it was really odd. Like his remote just disconnected for a minute. He at least 2 or 3 times failed to get the puck deep by losing an edge or holding it too long. Did same in D-zone.....

I am a HUGE fan of the kid but if he keeps doing these types of plays Trotz will bench him for sure.

Going to be a very interesting trade deadline. If the Isles continue to play well, will Barry and Lou worry about messing up the chemistry? I'd love to include Nelson in a package for a better 2C as the Isles do not seem to have a 2C in the system.
